Hello,

I am brand new to this forum, i used to own a smart fortwo and after selling it and getting fed up of cycling everywhere i am in the look out for an IQ.

I could do with some advice about what to look out for when buying a secondhand IQ

Im looking in particular at an automatic 09 to accomodate my budget.

However how do i know if the dreaded egr was replaced? have called dealers and they are clueless. Also my knowledge about cars is pretty poor.

Anything else i should think about when viewing the cars? All the cars i am looking at are from general secondhand car dealers unfort.

In particular this one caught my eye http://www.justsmallcarsofwindsor.co.uk/used-cars/toyota-iq-1-0-vvt-i-2-multidrive-3dr-windsor-201507215379375

hope thats ok to include the link.

Anyway thank you for reading this!

Sarah

Hi Sarah, Welcome to the forum and best of luck buying your first iQ. There are some pics here that may help you on the subject of the EGR Valve. The first one is how it should not be, the second is how it should look, and the last one for reference as to where it is -not knowing your knowledge base on the iQ. Our car is a 59 plate 1 litre manual and the side bolster on the driver's seat is getting a bit grubby/worn on the edge where you get in. The plastics are scratched quite easily, there may be quite a few creaks from it -check it out on a test drive. The headlights are adequate, but not great. There can be scratch damage on the inner door support where the seatbelt catches the plastic, and on the outer edge of the door trim from the metal 'prong' you put into the seatbelt catch. The horn is a bit puny, the standard interior light is a bit dim... okay, good points.

It's a great little car, reliable, great turning circle -you'll be used to that- and bags of space in the front. Economy for our manual at the moment is just over 60mpg, but that won't be easy to achieve in an auto, I expect someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Had ours at least three years now and still loving it. The one you're looking at looks good, don't see many black ones.

Thank you for the replies

Can you have a look at the photos and see if the egr valve looks ok?

Thanks

Sarah

Sorry, for late reply, been busy. I can't see it on those photo's. If you take them to the right of the Toyota Badge, it is situated near the ground, or the lower part of the engine bay. If you look for the item in my pictures here... Hope this helps determine if yours has been fixed.

Also, I can refer you to this page, all about the EGR issue- http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/147454-egr-problem/
