New Owner And A Few Questions (56 Plate T4, 2l Auto)

I'm new here, and also to "modern" vehicles - see my intro post

I gave up on Haynes manuals a long time ago - too much of moderately basic stuff that's labelled as "see your dealer". For my Land Rovers, I've worked from the official Land Rover manuals which can be bought fairly cheaply on CD.

While I'm not planning (hoping) to have to do anything major, some good manuals would be a good idea - if only so I can spot a mechanic without a clue ! What's the recommendations from here on manuals to use ?

Which leads on to ...

A rear wheel bearing is on it's way out, and yes I've jacked it up and checked - there's definitely a "square ball" in there.

A quick search suggests it's an unbolt the hub assembly, press out the bearing (I have a 15t press), press in a new bearing, and reassemble. Apart from watching out for seized bolts (on a 25 year old LR, I'm used to that  ), anything else to watch out for ?

And lastly (for now !), it's got the 310 head unit and sat nav (not the big colour display where mine has a storage bin). Are there any other (later ?) units that are a drop in replacement with one or more of DAB, and aux-in or bluetooth to connect my phone for music, bluetooth for hands free ?

I fitted a wheel bearing to the east of my 2006 estate and there's no press required, just undo 4 bolts on the rear of the arm then tap out the whole assembly. Make sure you disconnect the abs sensor at the rear though. I found it best to loosen the bearing first then with it in my hand, slide a small screwdriver into the abs connector and pull it off. Also watch for the handbrake adjuster, it fits over both the shore and handbrake arm and if not correct will as I found out seize the handbrake on and be a female dog to get the rear disk off again to correct it. I can't offer you anything re the head unit but I'd be interested in the info myself.

Ah, that looks simple enough.

So replace the whole unit including ABS sensor then ?

I'll call in at my local motor factors on the way to work and see what their computer says they have.

Yes the bearing comes as a complete hub with abs sensor.

Well my local motor factor had one on the shelf. I was going to fit it last night except the rain arrived early than forecast :(

Anyone any suggestions on the manuals front ?

Or the head unit. I need to correct an error in my first posting on that. It's got the TNS310 DVD navigation system, the head unit says W58831.

There's no Haynes for the T25 but you can buy a pdf type manual from the likes of eBay. It's not got everything in it but it does cover quite a lot. IIRC mine was about a tenner.

hu/trip computer/sat nav is a joke

I fitted jvc double din system with bluetooth

ditched the trip computer etc screen for a centre cubby hole

suppose you could get the all singing and dancing hu'/satnav/dvd/Bluetooth/rear view camera etc etc systems you see on eBay etc

Yeah, I'm not that bothered about the navigation - not to mention it's still got it's original disk. I have a nice Garmin 7200 that with a little effort will wedge in the open flap of the centre cubby box.

Long term I recon I could make up some brackets that would allow it to stow away and hinge out when needed.

The audio system is OK for my needs - I was just wondering if there were some newer version that would slot in and offer any of the "nice to have's".
