Avensis Rocker Cover Gasket Replacement

I have recently purchased a 2005 Avensis Strata 1.6 petrol. I have checked car over in detail & have only seen one issue... a very small amount of oil on two of the coils was evident when I changed the spark plugs.... I have since orderd a Genuine Toyota rocker cover gasket which should solve this issue before it becomes a problem. I have two questions here... firstly do i need to put gasket sealer all around he head or just either side of the timing chain? Secondly can I re-tighten the rocker cover by hand or will I need to use a torque wrench? What are the specifications in Newten Meters on the cover... especially the two centre bolts.

Before you ordered the rocker cover gasket you should have checked the bolts around the cover sometimes they become loose. But a rocker cover gasket is not dear and I never use the torque wrench on them, I just put them hand tight (but not to tight) the torque setting on the rocker cover not very high 10 or 12nm if memory serves me. And as for the gasket sealer I always put a light bead around where i'm putting the gasket holds it place also hope this helps.

HI Aiden i felt with just buying the car and it has 120,000 miles on clock I would just put new gasket on the cover. Taking the cover off gave me chance to check the chain and cams which are in perfect condition... I tightend cover best I could... from outside in... with normal 3/8 drive socket... seems to have worked well... I just put a blob of gasket sealer on area where head meets the chain housing on both sides.
