Demo Drive.......

Hej all,

Today I went for a demo drive in a black 2009 IQ.

The drive is not what I expected, after reading so many positive reviews on the WWW.

What I need to say is that it's the car itself in this case; I suspect that the car that I drove suffers of the above topic (EGR problems). The salesman didn't come with a good offer or a repair "before" sale offer when asked about it.

I'm a little bit sad that my first encounter with the IQ is not a joy. The steering felt "stiff" too, and on the highway it didn't feel steady in straight line driving, but thats up to wheel aligning I guess, or hope......

Is there someone on this fora that lives in the Netherlands, (preffered Rotterdam/Den Haag area)

and has a perfect IQ and will let me do test drive?

I really want to know how good an IQ can go, the one that I tried was not a good presentation.

Cheers, Menno.

Can't help with a test drive but i will say that the steering on the IQs i've driven has been very smooth and very easy, i can turn my wheel with a finger!

And the car should feel nice and stable, our's feels like a much bigger car and is quite happy on the motorway, it's certainly a lot more stable and insulated than our old Smart Brabus

Hope you find a good one and aren't put off by a bad test drive...

Thanx Marc,

The "stiff" steering must be a problem on the particular car then.

I'm not put off yet, in fact; if the salesman gave some kind of discount or solution on solving the EGR and steering issues....... Maybe I would cruise around in the thing allready.

Not in a hurry though, still got my Arosa TDI with a good MPG when trashed.

One day there will be a IQ that will suit me, and it may have issues (even the EGR ones) if the price is right.

I'm still open for a test drive in a perfect (ish) running IQ, makes comparing a tad easier.

Cheers, Menno.

There was a recall for my 59 plate where the steering column had to be either " re-calibrated" or replaced. The symptoms for the recall are not known by me but it may jog others on the site

Cheers Craig. So not stiff steering related. No help to our friend Menno then

Thanx for your input guys,

It's more that the steering was "sticky" (sorry for my cr*p english), like when you turned a couple of degree to left or right it would stay in that position and the car would go that direction. It was not selfcentering (?), so I was correcting it all the time to keep it in a straight line.

The steering on itself was light enough.

My steering was very stiff and stodgy when I first got my car. I drove it the 100 or so miles home and hated every mile. The next day I checked the tyre pressures to find that they were all 20psi instead of 30+. !0 min with a foot pump cured the steering. The car had been serviced the day before I collected it. I also had the oil and filter changed as it had been filled with ordinary 10-30 sae oil and the filter was filthy. Try another car before deciding as they do all vary. Cheers Colin
