Unknown Button On The Audio Compartment

Hi just bought a Vitz for my wife and tried to do some search on the internet and found this lovly board for toyota.... Looks Great....

Our Vitz came with a 3 in 1 audio system CD/Cass and Radio... I have fitted an alteration module to the radio so it can match the FM freq in Malta were we live as the Japanese version radio do not...

Well but still have a small question to ask .... there is a button on the radio left side which looks like a bar code |||||| and when pressed the sound stops and a number apper like 1466 but i still can hear some hiss like in radio without transmission... Does any one can help me figure out this please..

Nope this is not AM/FM switch, have it on my Vitz too... mine switches to 1620KHz looks lika a japanese radio service coz I've seen some reference to the freq. in jap sites.

There is a reference in the manual... hope yours is in english

Can you set ||||| like the other presets...ie if you turn to a particular frequency..and hold this button down...does it save it?

i think i know what viper 7 is getting at here. it could be the preset for the local traffic alert station. unlike UK who have traffic news on most stations at certain times other countries have a dedicated channel which transmits the traffic news constantly and depending where your set came from it could be preset for the area.

you should be able to reprogramme this button by way of a retune as mentioned by viper 7

you are right Gus, just found out mine is tuned to metropolitan expressway radio a traffic alert station. will check out whether it can be tune to something else

That is what i was thinking that is a special channel, but as i said i was not sure..

It makes sense what you all said in your posts here ...

Well so far so go we are happy with the car. Just did a service to make sure that every thing is ok. Changed the engine oil and filter also the air cleaner....

No i do not have a manual book in english for it but my friend got a Yaris which is very similar to our Vitz... I borrowed the book and took a photo copy... well i managed to find also how to find the AC filter and i cleaned it with some compressed air.

yes it is the auto tune

yep bang the AST button and itll tune the 6 strongest signals into the presets

again...hitting AST just the once...won't have an effect.... or is affect? lol always catches me out that! think it's effect... anyways...you have to hold it down for a few seconds, for it to do it's business...otherwise I guess if you accidently hit it...you've lost all your current presets...and get a lucky dip!

hi i also have a vitz and i know the answer to the question coz i bot the manual from spam.com. its a traffic alert station-you press the button to listen to traffic broadcasts which are preset to 1620. now i have a question you mentioned in ur post that you got something to adjust in frequency on the radio in thevitz (mine can only gat to bay radio 89.7) where can i buy this? a reply vm apreciated ( i am writing from malta)
