Aircon Pipe Leak....

Helooo Everyone,

Just checking the oil and water before my 350 mile trip tomorrow and noticed that the aircon pipe (see picture) was visibly white and all together looked frozen, anyway my first thought was a leaking pipe but after putting my finger closer to the join /seal coming from the bulk head(see arrow in picture) i could feel a slight amount of pressure and also a faint hissing so a leaking seal is self diagnosed unless anyone knows different.

?Anyone else had this,is it a self fix.

Also i noticed that when the aircon is switched off there's a metallic kind of knocking sound which disappears when air con is switched back on ?any ideas.

Car is 06..2.0 D4D 1CDFTV.

HI exvec, the noise is your describing is the aircon clutch pulley has gone (common fault), you have 2 options, replace air con compressor (not sure if you can just replace pulley I couldn't few years back) or bypass it with a shorter belt and save money on fuel :)

not able to help with other one but I have found these incase you need replace anything.

?Does anyone know if the pipe in the picture is supposed to freeze on the outside which is happening to mine,i'm trying to ascertain if the seal (indicated by the red arrow in pic) needs changing or the pipe its self is faulty..(eg holed in some way)..grateful for any input.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took the Air Con Compressor of today hoping to remove the ,i think its called the vane part so i could have a closer luck at the bearing with maybe a view to renewing the bearing and also maybe renewing This Part ..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIR-CONDITIONING-COMPRESSOR-CLUTCH-TOYOTA-AVENSIS-2-0-D-4D-/331639019376?hash=item4d3739d770..but couldn't get the pulley part off the shaft..

?Anybody done this repair at all..if so ?how did you remove the pulley part.
