Rav4 T180 Hazard Lights

Hi all

I'm sorry to bother you but I have searched and searched the internet and am beginning to think I am the only one in the world with this problem, so I am wondering if anyone on this site can give me some suggestions as to what I could look for, where to look or what to try and replace.

My Hazard lights are not working, as I press the hazard switch the hazards flash once and then stop that's it, my indicators do stop working (as they should) when the switch it fully pressed in.

I have changed the switch twice,

I called out a mobile auto election who did not know what was wrong

I called out the AA (due to me having a repair cover with them) but they could not find the problem.

I have just had a service at the main dealers and asked them if they could look at it, but they refused as they said it was a problem with the aftermarket tow bar that it had fitted on it (was on the car when I brought it) although the wiring has already been disconnected from the two bar

I phoned up another main dealer who told me that they could look at it but it could be a very expensive job.

So before I take the last route just wondered if anyone could advise,

Sorry if I don't come back in to reply tonight but have only just seen this site kept being directed to a site in USA, and am so tired looking I am going to bed soon. :) so thank you for any advice

You could try changing the flasher unit.It would be a cheap try before going to a dealer. Failing units can often throw up strange functions with flashers.

Make sure you change the correct unit - your vehicle may have seperate units for the flashers and the hazard warning lights.

Something else you might want to try is to contact some tow bar manufacturers (Witter or whoever) or some of th caravan owners clubs, they might be able to advise you as to what kind of problems the bypass relay can cause with your particular vehicle. That is assuming the bypass relay is still fitted to the car although the rest of the wiring has been removed.

Thank you TomdeGuerre

I was going to go back to the place that fitted the tow bar, but they have disappeared off the face of the earth, just my luck aye, but might be worth asking another company

I'm not sure I want to go back to Toyota main dealer as I contacted my local one this morning, although they have said they would look at it at a cost (which I expected) that they would not be able to do it till the end of this month, and me being me I want it done yesterday.

Thanks for the replies

Get a local auto electrician to look at it.

Hi allen333

I did call out an auto electrician to look at it but he could not find out what its was

THE GOOD NEWS IS my partner has now found out what the fault was, so will share here just in case anyone else has this problem.

There was a reversing camera on the car we disconnected it in the tailgate. it looked a modification of some sort, once disconnected my Hazards started to work.

I now need to figure out how to get the onscreen reversing camera going again.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR IMPUT

Any idea how to get my camera working again :) I love my Rav
