Stop Seatbelt Warning Alarm On Passenger Seat.

On many occasions I've carried shopping bags on the passenger's seat only for the seatbelt alarm to go off once I pull away due to the weight tricking the sensor that someone is sitting on the seat.

I've found an ingenious and cheap solution on eBay for £1.98. See attached pictures, they are of very high quality and solve the bleeping. Obviously if someone is actually sitting on the seat then the belt must be worn.

Great that you've found a solution, but could you not just put the bags on the floor? or in the back with the seats down?

Happened to me the other day.

I had other shopping bags on the floor and my camera bag on the passenger seat and as I was driving along kept hearing an intermittent loud beep! I couldn't work out what it was as it wasn't on all the time, I guess the bag was just on the limit of the switch.

Once I saw the seat belt light come on as well I figured it out and pulled the seat belt across the bag and plugged it in. I like the fake buckles though, I wouldn't want to modify the software as the alarm is an important safety feature so the buckle solves the problem for me.

Cheers

Craig.

I made a fake buckle for mine using a piece of plastic. Just mark and cut round the shape of the buckle.

There are some useful ideas here for me to remember if the need arises for me to use the front passenger seat to carry things.

I have had my IQ over five and a half years now and have never had anything on the front passenger seat other than a passenger!

The warning has been useful though. On a couple of occasions it has gone off because my wife has forgotten to put her belt on!

My wife's car is a hatchback and if I ever need to carry a lot of stuff I tend to borrow her car and fold up the rear seat cushion and down the seat back which gives a quite reasonable carrying area.

Or you could just take the buckle round the back of the seat and plug it back in , for free.

I've just learnt where to place my handbag so it doesn't go off. I can get away with certain items but heavy items always go in the boot

Stick a screw in the speaker.
So i found “my” solution to stopping the “Nagging” from this little car! I screwed a screw into the little speaker behind the speedo. Pressing the speaker inwards. This silenced it almost totally. I dropped a couple of drops of hot glue around the screw to keep it seated. So now its very hard to hear and i have not affected the airbag functionality.

grab the whole plastic piece that covers the speedo. Yes that curved top and all its attached to. Give a firm tug/yank towards you. Then you’ll see two screws either side to release the rest. 2 more small screws on the back of the speedo and a few cocktail sticks to hold the clips away so i could click all the clips at once. A few needed releasing from the front edges and then it was possible to sort that pesky little blighter out with my chosen (Shortened) screw. I did enlarge the speaker holes at this point so i could remove the screw if i chose to later… without having to do such a tear down. The process was much simpler than i expected and i would say i am 90% pleased. The 10% irritation is with Toyota for not giving me a choice. I would like the alarm for the lights left on reminder etc. and local garages will not help. Toyota…. Not helpful.

Regards. Barnaby.
