Air Con Problems Unlucky ?

Hi, I've been having air con problems since I got my 2010 Yaris. The car was 2 year old when I got it and still under warranty but I didn't realise there was A problem until the warranty ran out. I assumed it just needed re-gassing so took it to local garage and got re-gas done for £45 which only lasted about 3/4 months then no air con. As it was now autumn I waited until the spring last year and went to my Toyota dealer and explained the situation, they re-gased the system £45 and said it was ok, no problems. Again all was well for 3/4 month then air con stopped again. Went back to Toyota dealer in May this year, they re-gased and cleaned complete system £80 and put dye in to detect any leaks and again all was well until middle of August and guess what?. air con stopped again. Took car to main Toyota dealer waited 2 hours was told couldn't find any leaks but recommended replacing some internal piping bla bla bla etc and would cost around £260. Would like to know if this is a general problem with Toyota Yaris or am I just unlucky ?

Sounds like you've been unlucky.

Next time its regassed leave it on all the time to see if it lasts, as it'll keep the system well lubricated.

Probably unlucky. Air conditioning needs to be used throughout the year (preferably at least once a week) to ensure the seals are lubricated, etc. If it isn't then one may have problems and this applies to any make/model. Not using it throughout the year, may have contributed to your issues.

Air conditioning doesn't need to be used on cold during winter - when used with the heater it is an efficient way to demist the windows, etc and is far quicker than using just the fan and heat

Sounds like pump seals are failing due to lack of use. Dye test will probably not detect it..

I had a similar problem with mine, the dealer regassed it twice and put dye in etc and eventually just replaced the compressor. That was done under warranty though and it's been fine since.
