2011 Auris Hybrid, Slow To Engage Gear

If I shift into forward or reverse gear straight away after pushing "start" button the car doesn't engage gear even though the "ready" light has illuminated however if I wait 2-3 seconds it's fine. Now I know 2-3 seconds isn't a long time to wait but it's damned annoying when I miss it and the car doesn't move when I press the accelerator. Does this happen to anyone or anyone have a reason why this happens?

There is a 1 or 2 second delay between pressing the start button and the beep letting you know you can engage drive or reverse. If you`re getting a long delay in the car becoming "ready" your 12v Battery in the boot could be getting tired. How old is your Battery. It may benefit from a charge, but use a smart charger with an output of 4A or less.

Thanks for your reply Stuart. The "ready" light comes on immediately after pressing the start button, so I'm assuming the Battery is ok, it's the 2 second wait after that before it will engage drive that prompted my question but if yours is the same then that must be how it is! The annoying thing is when you are waiting to pull out into traffic, press the accelerator and nothing happens. I'll just have to get used to checking the "D" light on the dash. Certainly wouldn't make a getaway car that's for sure.

If you`re waiting at traffic lights or a junction, don`t put it into park, just keep your foot on the brake pedal, this is advice from toyota too.
