New Auris: Leather Or Not?

Going to buy an Auris 2015 and I am not sure about adding the full leather seat option.

What are your thoughts leather Auris owners? is it hot during summer, cold during winter? Do you slide around on braking? Is it poor quality and develop cracks? e.t.c

I've had umpteen cars with and without leather seats and, personally speaking, I'm not a fan. I know they're heated etc but when you first jump in on a winter morning they're freeeeezing and some I've found decidedly sticky in hot weather so I prefer seats with textile covers. It's always going to be a matter of personal taste, leather seats certainly look better but they fairly whack up the price too.

Are they good Buttock investment as well? Do they feel like 1000 pounds of cow hide?

Had a 64 plate Auris Excel Hybrid with full leather. Quality was very good and did not find any difference between summer & winter comfort, I traded it in this year for a 15 plate (same model with but with TSS) but I would say that it made no difference to the trade in value.

The one I have now is half leather, half cloth and looks & feels OK to me, if i had the choice again i would save myself the £900 and go with what I have at the moment.

regards

A buttock investment - ooooohhh, cheeky chappie. but like most Scots I drive around in a kilt sometimes (sans Y's of course) and at the right temperature aye, highly recommended but at low temps shrinkage becomes a problem.

About the 1,000 pounds hide, my dear departed MIL would have been the expert there, she used to buy her coats from Land of Leather stores.

I gather they are more comfortable than cloth seats. Although I had no problem driving a 12 year old Rover to Cornwall. Just curious about leather seats and if their more comfortable and feel like the expensive leather sofas you try in John Lewis.

For a true comparison there you need to compare the expensive non-leather sofas in John Lewis to ther leather ones.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of leather and wouldn't add it. On the other hand I wouldn't not buy a car because it had it. I wouldn't want leather without heated tho.

I would go for leather if money isn't an issue. It looks better, feels better, and if maintaiden properly, lasts longer. Cloth is just a cloth and it will be full of stains and other dirt. Leater is much easier to keep clean. Also attracts less dust.

Thanks for the input, I've decided to save 1000 on the leather and go with cloth. Not realy bothered with the resale value. Rather spend the money on a nice sofa which I will be having more bum time on.

Now if it was Jag or Ferrari then that's a different matter.

Well I kinda agree with you. It's a car with cheap looking plastic dash etc. so why bother. If you would want superb comfort and looks you would be probably buying some other car. Auris is mostly for go, not for show.

He's going for the 2015 Auris and its dashboard's plastic neither is, nor looks cheap. Trust me, the new Auris interior has nothing to do with the cheap plastics of the old one :) It's leather with stiches and looks really nice. :chinese:

Regarding the seats, I've got the semi-leather interior, nice grey fabric in the middle with leather and alcantara ends and it is way better than full leather interior.

Yeah I know it will be newest model, but still, at least on the pics the panels look quite cheap. Some stitches and some leather or similiar to leather, but also plastic here and there. Of course it is better than my 2007 :D but you have to agree that for example VAG has had always better interior quality and looks.

This is the 2013 model, not 2015. Here is the 2015 one:

And I don't think the BMW or the Mercedes interiors look better. Don't compare stylized photoshop pictures with real photographs.

Pics are only to show what I'm talking about. I'm sure many people have sitted in the VAG cars aswell as in Toyotas and felt the difference in quality, not only by looking at the pics. I have driven both 1-series BMW and A-Class Benz. BMW in the pics is also 2013 I think.

Let me ask you then... Why, for *****'s sake, are you driving a Toyota and not a 1-series BMW or an A-class?

P.S. What's wrong with C*h*r*i*s*t and why does it get asterixed?

Lol, I believe that's because religion related words are prohibited...

Why Toyota? It's cheaper to buy and maintain, is more practical and works better on these roads and in this climate. German cars have better quality and look good but are expensive, fail MOT more often than Toyota etc etc. I can put almost whatever to the Auris when I flip the rear seats. Then I drove A-Merc and felt like driving some big car but figured that the hatch hole was so small I would not be able to fit anything in there. None of the cars is perfect, some just are more suitable for the needs you have :)

So, basically you are comparing Toyota to a car, whose starting price is higher than the top level of equipment of the Auris, brakes easier and more often and is less practical and reliable...? :P Cool! This sums it up... :D

I meant better quality in terms of look and feel only.

Of course if you pay more you get more. But the class is same so in terms of that they are comparable. The manufacturers we are talking about do not produce low quality looking, plasticky cars with same price as Toyota. That's their choice, to make it look and feel better and to ask more money for it. Toyota could also do this, but they don't. They make more boring looking cars with more boring interior for practical people who are willing to spend less than those buying Mercedes or BMW and want the car to work, not only to look good.
