Clutch Pedal Sticking On Top End On 2007 2.0 D4d

Hi All

My clutch pedal sticks at the top end once the clutch has been released and springs back up a few seconds later in the part of the pedal where there is a bit of play if you know what I mean!

Gear changes, etc are not affected. It is just annoying when it hits your foot a second or so after you have relased the clutch.

I sprayed a bit of lithium grease near the piston of the peadl and tightened a loose bolt on it but it made no difference.

What does it mean in term of long term issues or an easy fix?

The car is on 96K

Best Wishes

With the vehicle parked have you tried pushing the pedal with both hands using an inspection lamp so you can see what's happening there? It could be the master cylinder, pressure plate, or wear or an obstruction in the pedal itself. Hope for the former or latter. is there any unusual noise with it? If you disconnect the pedal from the master cylinder you'll be able to feel any wear in the pedal mechanism. I suppose it could also be the slave cylinder sticking because it's down there on the side of the gearbox and could have suffered corrosion. Have someone pump the pedal slowly and look closely at it.

This is typical behaviour of a failing clutch master cylinder. Fluid is bypassing the internal seals and preventing/delaying the return of the pedal.

Check for leaks around the piston boot in the footwell and falling level in the fluid reservoir.
