Very crude test on mpg...Roads:6 miles commute each way3 evenings bypass 3 miles each wayOcassional weekend outing1. Accelerate / drive / coast then brake veeeee-ry carefullyFILL-UP:IMG_20150920_140615_zps3jl4jysc.jpgIMG_20150929_184540_zpslbynbzny.jpgGOT: 51.9mpg over 404miles...IMG_20151008_140514_zpsqtozv5vo.jpgIMG_20151008_125804_zpsqgtdbqrr.jpg2. NEXT! Accelerate briskly, but maintain drive and coast/brake veeeee-ry carefully - lolFILL-UP:IMG_20151008_125804_zpsqgtdbqrr.jpgIMG_20151008_143320_zpsl3pzwksb.jpg

UPDATE:

After a few days on TEST 2 - Drive as per TEST 1, but with more brisk acceleration into PWR bands often (NOT every time)...

Initially ONLY commuting: 39mpg - eeeek!

After a blast on the bypass (PWR mostly to 60mph, then ease off to ECO as speed reaches 70+): 42mpg :)

Now, after just ONE PWR instance in morning commute and 2 PWR instances on return trip: 44mpg :)

Another blast on bypass tonight...

OK

Cheating a little by cutting short the full 2nd tank test ...

...as taking a few motorway detours from tomorrow (this will skew my figures)...

So

I estimate after 200+ miles and less than 1/2 tank left...

2nd full tank test (same driving as 1st tank, but more power to legal speed at start):

Mpg: 47

Range: 387

(1st tank: 52 +404)

Well

Since got 100 miles fuel left to play with....

Thought I put my foot down on the bypass to see what it could do.... :naughty:

Leaving round about....

onto bypass of 70mph...

foot (i would say) 9/10th on the floor of the gas pedal...

Needle hits 9/10th of the PWR bands...

Car eager to accelerate...

Engine noise becoming more and more apparent...

I spot a newish fiesta in sight....TARGET ACQUIRED :driving::driving::driving:

th_zPWR.jpg

No chance! :( :crybaby:

Think the mileage was around 70k though. Hope you find something soon becasue it's a bit daunting searching and running around, a bit like house hunting although there you have to pay for surveys over and over and I've known people get to desperate lengths.

Well

Have sort of abandon my initial experiment of using a different driving style per full tank of fuel...

1st tank: 52mpg 404m - Drive like Ms Daisy in STANDARD mode

2nd tank: 47mpg 387m - Drive like Ms Daisy in STANDARD mode but accelerate in PWR ranges

3rd tank: 200miles of motorway at 50ish mpg + ECO mode + PWR mode = 50+mpg 400m

Recent short journey tests shows:

1. Not that bother about warming up car 1st (let ICE start before moving off)

2. In ECO mode can get good 50+ mpg even with occasional PWR ranges (unlike STANDARD mode my mpg seems to drop considerably)

3. Like to continue to drive in ECO mode but, press PWR button whenever need extra ooomph...

Every car is different.

I think I like my car as in ECO mode and pressing PWR button for extra grunt is better mpg (or same) than leaving in ECO mode and putting foot down......

Will see....

PS:

Dead jealous hearing Yaris and Prius owners doing amazing 50-60+mpg on others threads! :)

Cheers Scott!

Didn't want to go into reserves - as might damage engine or might start sucking the gunge at bottom of fuel tank

Anyway

1st drive in:

ECO MODE

PWR button at traffic lights :driving::driving::driving:

Average: 51mpg :yahoo::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Right

Just dropped my kids off at a Scout Reservoir in the countryside with narrowed windy roads and steep inclines ...the suns out and beautiful wet brown leaves blowing about....sod it - let go for a drive! :driving:

Car is warm

Switched off car

Switch on

ECO button off

Stereo off

Air con off

PWR button ON

Reset AVERAGE MPG

Reset AVERAGE SPEED

Off I go! B)

Mainly in top bands of ECO and middle of PWR bands

Speeds from 35-50mph

No stops

Just free flowing traffic

a few harsh brakes

Journey:

Temp - 15 degrees

Weather - sunny, but windy and wet

Distance - 2 miles

Average speed - 33mph

Average mpg = 53MPG :thumbsup::yahoo:

1st stop

back on ECO mode

an extra 1 mile in medium traffic

Average mpg = 62MPG :gora:

Never ceases to surprise me that EVERYDAY is different MPG dependent on following:

1. Driving mode (EV, ECO, PWR)

2. Driving style (slow, civilised, aggressive ...)

3. Temp

4. Road type

5. ...

I thought I sussed it out, but the jury s still out....

My trials so far:

1. NORMAL mode: Averaging 52mpg (full tank, variable temp and no PWR bands)

2. NORMAL mode: Average 47mpg (full tank, few PWR bands)

3. NORMAL mode: 52mpg (commute 6am, temp 15 degree)

4. ECO mode: 55mpg (commute 6am, temp 15 degree)

5. PWR mode: 53mpg (2miles, driving quite aggressive on country lanes)

+1mile in heavy traffic = 62mpg!

6. PWR mode: 68mpg (25miles of many PWR bands at night in free traffic)

IMG_20151111_060951_zpsha73xmvy.jpg

IMG_20151110_213122_zps6cmnd59j.jpg

Findings thus far:

1. Driving within normal parameters: whether ECO or STANDARD or PWR or many times in PWR bands (but not aggressively all the time): my range on full tank ALWAYS around 400miles :)

2. ECO mode is BEST - as the stiffer gas pedal and the MENTAL ATTITUDE to keeping needles away from the PWR bands actually ENCOURAGES u to drive slower and more civilised hence yields a better MPG and range

3. In PWR mode - I do drive MORE aggressively and much MORE times in PWR bands as I KNOW that's the reason I am in PWR mode and therefore my MENTAL ATTITUDE is to drive more aggressively but, the MPG drop and the range drop is not huge , but i think is acceptable (as long as not too aggressive MOST times!)

- having said that, keeping in PWR mode, driving aggressive WHEN I feel like it BUT, civilised at least 1/2 the times its still not bad MPG and RANGE :) :) :)

As many have said, its REALLY how light u are on the gas pedal :) :) :)

I guess hence why people say doing an average over 3 tanks :)

Though I thought I found my ideal setting (ECO mode, but press PWR button when needed),

I think I might change to:

1. Stick with NORMAL mode - ONLY because its a bit of phaffing around trying to located then push the ECO button each time I want to come off PWR mode

2. Best to use PWR mode, as I think trying to drive with heavy right foot in PWR bands in ECO mode uses more fuel....then again, PWR more just much more fun with the sensitive gas pedal :)

Interesting

I can select BOTH modes at SAME time (EV and ECO or EV and PWR)?!!!!!

IMG_20151113_143335_zpsngtoudra.jpg

In standstill traffic in NORMAL mode - engine is on..

Press ECO mode, engine cuts out immediately

ECO mode off - engine back on

I repeat a few times just to double check too!

Shell V-Power goes into the tank for 1st time :)

Will see if it affects my average 400miles per tank thus far ....

She'll v power may not make big difference but if you keep refuelling at Shell, Texaco, you will be ok with fuel consumption. Avoid at any price refuelling at Sainsburys, and other cheap garages as their petrols for some reason are not as good as other two because always when fill up there the trip shows far less miles can do with a full tank. The Auris mpg not as good as Prius but if you average around 50's it's still very good for an automatic car that's pleasure to drive in town.

Thanks bud

I actually put in a tank of Asda in my tank before V-Power

But always used Shell fuel save before

I put in Asda because:

1. Not really much point in deliberately go out of my way to get Shell

2. Always think sometime ideal to put in some supermarket fuel just to get car used to it (I mean if my car always super clean used to Shell, one day it might just die if I put in cheap fuel - just my silly theory .....lol)

Though next time best to leave electric fold mirrors open!

Worried this morning the hard frost on mirror might have frozen the mirror motor too! Eeeek!

Is this even possible...? I know you can fold them with the button on the dash, while car is still on, but mine fold with door lock and I don't think I can leave them unfolded, unless I leave the car unlocked...

I know my deffo does not auto fold

I know some cars are programmable by the remote or at dealers....maybe start a new thread and ask?

I ll check my manual once home for u....

Well might as well check if my is programmeable...

Nope! :(

Nothing in manual about the electric fold mirrors can auto fold (nor can it be programmed into the remote key) :(

So this Rain-X or whatever is good for easy ice scraping. I'll need to get mine out and try it. I used it before but in good weather it was causing smearing so i cleaned it all off.

I should have paid more attention when you ran your Masterclass about clay-barring the windaes and get it all down. Now to leaf back through your post to page 134 or wherever :blow::blow::blow:

Tom!

Don't do it now!

UNLESS u have a heated garage!

Like car wax, it needs DOUBLE-DIGIT temp to apply and cure and then wipe off

DISCLAIMER: No guarantee that thick sub-zero frost will just melt away...

Wait til next late Spring now...
