Wayne, I was wondering whether you’d taken it out for a long enough run to charge the Battery, maybe you should have went over for a Wigan kebab or something while you were out. This thing with 12v Battery charging on the hybrids, I’ve read on here the ICE doesn’t have an alternator, it just drives the 360v thing that powers/charges the traction Battery and the 12v battery is charged off that. Is that how it works? Seems quare to me but any road I hope you parked your car high up and somewhere ‘tis dry if there’s anywhere left that is.
Just in case Yorkshire gets totally submerged let me wish you and yours a Happy New Year… here’s a wee Scottish msg and aw ra best.

Yup

No starter motor

No alternator

Means less mechanicals to go wrong :)

When the north pole melts, I ll make sure me house steers away from floating ice Berg's,

Until then, I think we are still relatively safe :)

Weather might be getting worse these days,

But I think our generation will be fine before the planet is hit by meteors, giant volcanoes and alien attacks - lol

U have a wee good New Year too, Tom lad!

Well

It's not as low as the sub-zero temp we had last year

But this week does feel a LOT colder and hard frost on car (not had before last year)

And this has an impact on my car and backed up by :

1. The LOWEST range ever since I had my car: 365 miles on full tank (my average is 400 miles, previous lowest 374) :(

2. The LOWEST MPG at 44 mpg (average 50 mpg, previous worst 47) :( :( :(

Posted

You are still getting pretty good figures. 44-50 mpg in winter conditions and short journeys it's not bad at all.

Well

As I booked my car into dealers to check:

1. Why horn intermittently works

2. If brake fluid has been changed

3. Why my pollen filter had to be changed

I missed seeing this on the service receipts...must book myself in to Specsavers next!

We are all of us failures - at least, the best of us are.

Had to go thru FOUR pages of "Managed Followed Contents" to find my thread :(

Anyway

At dealers now:

Dealer: "had trouble making a drive:?"

Me: "I can drive a car, but can't work out the drinks machine"

Dealer: "I ll make u one later"

...

Me: "managed to figured it out now"

Dealer: "er, don't look right?"

Jobs asked for:

1.Intermittent horn (under warranty)

2. Winter check (Free)

3. Check brake fluid change (£39 if need)

4. Missing covers for boot (above bumper) recessed bolt holes

5. How to order MP3s

6. NO WASH CAR

Posted

Nah!

What's a takeaway?

I thought my Auris can only have warranty extended til year 8 (Prius taxi to year 10) + Battery to year 11 (subject to annual check)

Does this mean I can extend my warranty to year 10???

Yes - Toyota changed the conditions around 18 months ago and upped the age where one can extend the warranty to.

Posted

Cool

I have extended my to 7 years last year

Will look into buying another 2 to extend to 9 years

I wonder what would happen if I bought another 2-4-1 warranty at year 9...

Would warranty end at year 10 (or would it cover year 11 too)?

Caught up with the Service Manager (on 2nd cup of hot choc and 4th free lotus biscuit...)

1. Yes we can see your service history

 - it looks like there was a part used for brake fluid in 2014

 - but unsure if it's a top-up or change...

2. No, I don't know how to order by MP3 neither

3. Yes u can extend warranty on the 10th year, last day and with 99,999 miles on clock and u can STILL extend for another TWO years with the 2-4-1 :)

Posted

Confirmed:

1. Service said "no idea ref order of MP3s"

2. No such cover for bolts in boot (above bumper)

3. Brake fluid never been changed

4. Horn: tbc

Nothing much to update:

1. Booked with Dealer for a £35 MOT

2. Interim service £185?

3. Air con stinking again (after 2 air con service at dealers last year - )

 - asked Dealer worth another air con service?

 - they said they will look at it under a warranty claim

4. Buying the Toyota Roadside Assistance for £72

Gave alloys a good clean before summer is over (yesterday unofficially summer ends ) :

 - Purple Rain on alloys

 - Wash

 - Hard wax

Nearly time for my cars service and mot, hoping the tyre's are are enough for the trip to Germany in August. Since it's not winter tyre time, the tread depth is the same as here. Tempted to get the front parking sensors for extra peace of mind.

Why not try all season tyres (I have Michellin CrossClimate on mind since last autumn)?

Why front park sensors?

PS: not on this thread much coz:

(1) it's several pages into my FOLLOWED CONTENTS (can't sort by latest post )

What tyre size is yours?

Mine has 215 45 R17,

Been in a few car parks where there has been a few obstacles, that aren't visable over the bonnet.

Posted

There was no sizes for my car at the time, so went slightly wider at 225/45R17 iirc

I see ref sensors :)

Posted

Thought so, hopefully no noticeable loss in mpg then?

Was thinking about the same tyres. as the Preston area never gets any real amount of snow. Not much point in getting winter tyres, just need good river tyres as it always rains here ;-)

Posted

Not sure

As I bought the car late last summer

And swop tyres early autumn:blink:

Having said that I get 48+ in winter and 52+ now - but been told that about right for my car anyway

In hot temp it's no where near as noisy and wobbly as Nokian winters I used to have on my old car and in summer it's good as gold. Tried a few moves in snow and not a problem unless I go faster up a snowy hilly or brake faster (but deffo far better than summer in snow!)

U thought about wet Tyres like RainSport3?

Posted

Yes, that's my problem. I can't decide which would be better. If Uniroyal made the old rain expert for my size i would go for them.
They stick to the road like s*** to a blanket in summer or winter, Even in snow they did quite well.

I always pick cars with an expensive tyre size ;-)

Posted

I agree

Braking system (incl tyres) are your life savers - so buy the best u can afford!

I was told most wheel sizes has a range of tyre sizes to fit legally and safely - hence I picked mine a little wider - have u looked at if your current rims abled to accommodate the Uniroyal tyres either a little wider/narrower or taller/shorter walls?

Posted

No not checked that, maybe i can find out by part number of the wheel. I should have that somewhere.
