Hey all

So the other week on my way home from work, the weld that keeps the bracket on the exhaust to connect to the rubber mount snapped off and it's currently being held up by a wire hanger but I would like to get a new back box fitted.

I've found one on eBay for £30 and was wondering how easy it would be to install? Will there be any kind of trouble I'm likely to run into while trying to install it?

From the little amount of information I've found online, it seems to be a case of unscrewing it from the midsection and taking it off the rubber mounts and installing the new one in its place. Can anyone confirm this?

If you have any links to a step by step guide that would be great!

Thanks,

Chris

It's an easy diy job, only bit which may cause trouble is if you don't have the tools if the bolt to the bracket is rusted away, I had to get the angle grinder to make light work of getting the old bracket of. I got my backbox and bracket from my local europarts, they were out of stock on the rubber hangers at the time, I was worried that I wouldn't get the old rubbers off or they wouldn't be in good enough nick to reuse, but applying good gollop of washing up liquid get them of the enlarged nipple easily and looked as new.

Hope all these photos I took at the time help

Hi guys,

Hope you dont mind me butting in but wondered if this new exhaust fits alright and is quiet?.

I had one fitted by a garage and its noisy and blows from the join as it doesn't meet together quite right.

So I'm going to buy a new one and clamp/rubbers and fit it myself but I would like a recommendation for which make to buy.

Also I cannot find the link for this Parts King person, can anyone help with that as I need a new inside drivers door handle and a high level brake light and the on/off switch on the dash for the air con.

Kind Regards Zaffy.

From personal experience I would be very wary of any non genuine exhaust. I am all for saving a few quid but the new one I bought off eBay for £80 (back box and centre pipe) turned out to have such an awful fit it came off after half a day. It sat in my garden for 2 weeks after which I decided it wasnt even worth putting on eBay and launched it into the local metal recyclers. I ended up with a rather expensive aftermarket sports back box which fitted properly and mated it to my old centre pipe. My centre pipe is now on its way out so I will be going to Mr T for a new one, along with a gen clamp as again I found the aftermarket clamp to be useless.
