Moldy (dirty Washing) Smell.

Hi guys.

First post here - so hello to you all.

My Avensis is 6 months old - 5,000 miles or so on it. Over the last couple of weeks we`ve noticed a really horrible mold/musty smell coming from the ventilation system - generally in first thing in the morning. It`s a bit like when you`ve left a load in the washing machine too long after a wash - yuck!

Tends to be only when we run cold air - without the AC. It usually disappears within 30-40 minutes of normal use or when I blast hot air through the system.

Any suggestions or causes it before I take it to the dealer. Should they be able to resolve it?

Thanks.

T.

probably a dirty pollen filter but take it to the dealer - they should be able to resolve it.

Assuming that it is a dirty pollen filter it depends upon how good your dealer is ... Strictly speaking on a normal basis it wouldn't be but on a 5-month old car imo a good dealer would do what they could whether that is just cleaning it or a replacement either foc or as cheap as they could (it's normally a £39 replacement iirc but the part is ~£18 & it's a 5-minute job - it lives behind the glovebox).

Its mould and bacteria forming in the heating /ventilation system usually caused by lack of air con usage.bang one of these trough the system and it will sort it HTH..

Or if you don't fancy paying 11 quid by some Dettol Spray for about 4 quid and spray that into the air intake with the pollen filter removed but make sure the re circ is not switched on ans it will circulate and kill the bacteria ,it may need a couple of doses but should sort it.
