The Most Negative Road Test Of Avensis Tr 1.8, I Have Seen.

I was looking for videos regarding the removal of dash to access the audio unit, when I came across this:

This video was negative about the Avensis TR with the 1.8 valvematic engine.

The tester could not fault the car for anything else. All he could think about, was performance and racing car like handling. He criticised the acceleration in gear, but could fault the standing start. He said he could not overtake safely. Well the roads are designing out overtaking, no matter the type of car.

Then the handling. He was on a roundabout testing the front end grip, and there was a car in front driving at a sensible speed. The tester was going too fast on the roundabout catching the car. Now if that car made an emergency stop, he would be in trouble!

I have said this before - the road are being restricted more with speed cameras, lower speed limits and speed bumps. Also with lots of accidents happening and sporty driving being scene as unsocial, this is can affect people. The Police would have a say too!

On a technical point the petrol engine has just over half the torque of a diesel engine. Compare any diesel and petrol versions, especially in a heavy chassis will get similar results. We all know diesels have their own problems.

Most other road tests have been very constructive, so I would look at those, plus a test drive of my own.

the 1.8 manual has 147bhp with a sub-10 second 0-60, what does he expect from a mid-market C-class car (& possibly a Tourer as he mentions estate)? If he is used to driving a diesel then the power for overtaking comes a lot higher up in the rev-range but it's perfectly OK for overtaking if driven in the correct manner.
