Rear Shock Absorbers

So my Yaris had it's m.o.t yesterday and the only thing picked up on was that there was a slight misting of oil on both rear shock absorbers. Advised to keep an eye on them and change them in the near future. Any one else had this done before? Is it expensive etc?

It's quite normal to have a little misting on shock absorbers. Did they issue an advisory? If not, then there's absolutely nothing to worry about. If they did, then it's an advisory, nothing else.

I had a car that got occasional advisories for cracks in the CV boots. Some years they'd pick it up, others they didn't. I never changed them.

I wonder if the MOT station had the word 'quick' in its title?

Haha no it wasn't quickfit, I used a local garage. It was given as an advisory yes, i'll just keep an eye on it for any sounds of knocking as they advised. Cheers mate.

Buy a spraycan of engine cleaner. Next year before MOT, spray the oily bits of the shock absorber. Leave an hour then spray with lots of water to remove the mess.

Leave to dry?: result one - or two clean shock absorbers and no MOT advisory.
