Reading Prius Engine Number

I have a 2005 Prius and would like to check the engine number from the car itself. I have seen the page in the owner's manual which shows where the engine number is located on the engine but I cannot see anything because of all the stuff in front of the engine. Is it possible to read this without removing some hoses and cables?

Is it possible to read the number electronically, through the OBDII port?

Thanks for any pointers,

JG

You'll need to check the number physically, even if it were possible with the OBD, it doesn't mean its the correct engine in the car.

Why do you think it has the wrong engine?

Why do you think it has the wrong engine?

I am certain the car has the correct engine. I am importing the Prius from Germany and the engine number needs to be entered on the V55/5 form to get the car registered in the UK. The German registration documents, whilst full of interesting information like the correct wheel and tyre sizes, do not include the engine number. It appears that, unlike the DVLA, the equivalent German authorities are not the least bit interested in the engine number.

As the car currently has no number plates, is off road and an hour's drive away, I can't simply take it to a friendly Toyota dealership and taking bits off the car to find the engine number is not trivial.

If the number is buried deep down somewhere on the engine, it may be worthwhile picking up or borrowing one of these tools that proctologists use..
