Corolla Colour Collection 2005 1.4 Vvt-i 1398cc Driver Belt Length

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this is my far car as shown in the subject.

Recently I was suggested to change the V Belt and I decided to do it on my own.

I bought a belt from eBay toyota store where they suggested the following belt.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321817161073?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I bought the belt, however at the time of fitting I compared the old one and the new one. The newly belt is smaller than the old one.

The old one is 6PK 1693 while the new one 6PK 1420.

On a complaint to totota store they keep insisting this is a right belt for the vehicle and I could use it. Ofcourse they offered to return it aswell.

Now I am in a fix if I could hte newly bought one or buy the appropriate length one which is 6PK 1693.

Will there be any issue if I use the 6PK 1420 one? Is adjusting the tension pulley good enough in this case?

Please reply.

Thanks

Sorry I meant to say its myfirst car. I am a total newbie to cars but would like to do repairs on my own or atleast try before taking it to garage.

According to the information I see the 6PK1693 belt (6 rib belt, 1693mm long) is for cars with air conditioning while the 6PK 1420 (6 rib belt 1420mm long) belt is for cars without air conditioning.

You need to get the right one for your car. See this link how to fit the belt.

Couple of suggestions that might help.

Mention which model of Rolla you have and what the engine is, Petrol or Diesel.

As Tom mentions there are two types though each should be a 'little' smaller than the original do to old age /belt stretch.

The belt tensioner is automatic, no manual adjustment possible.

Surprised you have bought from ebay; would suggest you look up a local motor factor, many around and usually have the parts in stock at keen prices; and the quality is normally good, often you have little idea from eBay.

There are several big online stores with local outlets like ECP and GSF, their sites are often handy to checking parts out generally because you give them you reg no. so the parts they return are crossed referenced to your car.

If intending to do you own servicing, then the Haynes manual covers most things.

edit

Example of a belt from ECP for my 1.6 petrol , 3 makes from £11 to £15

Thank you very much for your responses, I bought the belt from toyota online store on eBay. They still got it wrong even after giving them my VIN.

I will buy a new belt which is 6PK 1693 from a dealer and try to fit it.

Thanks for mentioning the sites where I can check for the parts and refering the manual. That seems to be very helpfull. Thanks.

I bought the belt from toyota online store on ebay.

Sorry, my bad, did not realise Toyota had an online store, just assumed ( wrongly) it was someone selling Toyota parts.

The key question that needs answering, does your car have air conditioning ?

If so, as you can see from the ECP screenshot for my car, there are 2 belts on for a/c and one for not, also shown are Toyotas part numbers.

Seems strange they got it wrong, but I wonder if your car was a base model that then had air con fitted as an extra, assuming you do have a/c ?

You choice, everyone has their own views, but for many parts you can buy OE quailty parts from most motor factors at a considerable saving over Toyota prices, some of which can be very expensive.

The Corolla 1.4 VVTi Colour Collection had air conditioning as standard.

Back in 2006 I bought a new 1.4 VVTi Colour Collection - which was based on the T3 with cosmetic differences (different alloys, different seat trim, and a limited choice of colours - black, metallic Xxion blue, and metallic silver, if I remember correctly).

The Offical Toyota Ebay Store is here - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ToyotaOfficialStore

Surprised I missed that, in a way might be handy as my local dealers never hold any parts in stock, always 1 or 2 days to order up, plus it saves running up and down to their stores.
