2.2 D4d Burning Oil Or Not?.

In 2008 I bought a new 2.2 D4D, from new it always used a small amount of oil but nothing to worry about.

I had this car until 2011 with no problems and passed it on to my daughter it started using excessive amounts of oil a year or two later and when cleaning the egr valve it was a filthy mix of soot and oil, I told her to take it to the Toyota dealer for checking, the crafty beggars overfilled the oil slightly so when she took it back it looked as if it had used less and they told her it was within spec.

I have since started using another garage to service the car and insist that they use the correct spec of oil, since then the oil consumption has returned to normal and the egr is just sooty, I tackled the previous people who were servicing the car and found they were using their stock oil 15w40.

If you have one of these using oil it could be the Same problem.

If what you stated about the dealers is true, then they should be reported to Toyota!

It sounds to me that they are worse than taking it to a good independent, and to me shows that sexual discrimination has come into play.

Trading standards springs to mind, plus naming and shaming.

Hi Konrad

I understand what you mean but it is impossible to prove and would be my word against theirs, just to clarify the previous garage servicing the car after my daughter got it was not the Toyota dealer.

I have now had so many problems with my local dealer I no longer give the my custom and travel around 50 miles to buy my cars and get them serviced.

Thanks for correcting me Revband.

This garage that is messing you about comes across as really terrible, for you to travel 50 miles to get a decent service.

At least you found the cause of the wrong type of oil. Great advice to others in a similar situation.
