Hi all. I have done a search and gathered some info, but I wonder if someone could tell me the best way to go here...recently had timing belt change inc all aux belts. Straightaway I noticed I had a hint of chirp and squeal at start up relating to the Power steering. This occurs at stationary, when steering turned to full lock...so under full load. It does not occur when driving. I took it back and they adjusted it, I assume they tightened it...but there is still squeal at full lock. As I said, it only occurs at full lock when stationary, which I always try to avoid apart from this test, or when some **** has boxed me in of course. Any thoughts what it could be and whether I should actually bother..or just live with it. I'm pretty sure the idle pulley was not changed and the aux belts were not Toyota OEM's. I've read possible culprits may be the idle tension pulley worn out...to the power steering pump. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. Shimmy.

Suspect the tensioner, but sometimes it's just a thing :(

My Yaris squeals like squishy animal is stuck in the engine when I fire it up in the morning, esp. cold damp days. Changed the belt, no difference. Sprayed some belt dressing, no difference. Not ubikd enough about it to get the tensioner/pulleys changed too so I just ignore it...

Thanks for reply Cyker. I am drifting over to your way of thinking. I have read that just changing the belt to another manufacturer can even stop the squeal. If it doesn't get worse, I'll probably just live with it.

Might be worth a punt if it isn't too expensive; I only tried a Toyota belt but I know Continental make one too that can be had from europarts.

The pulleys and tensioners are expensive enough that I wasn't willing to buy them for such a minor thing.

I had a thought tho' - Are you sure it's the belt squealing?

I have a feeling your cat has electric power steering (If it has hydraulic, then ignore this), and the electric motor tends to make this squeal-like sound when it's put under load as it gets older.

You can hear it really bad on older BMW minis when they're parking - It sounds a lot like the servo whine you get in some types of remote-controlled car!
