Engine Warning Light

I have a 2001 RAV-4 running on LPG. I bought it in February this year with 138,000 on the clock and it has now done 143,000. The engine warning light has been on since before I bought it, the previous owner told me that it was because of the LPG conversion and I believed it because I know that the lambda sensors often play up on the petrol engined models and I would not be at all surprised if the LPG confuses it somewhat. Anyway, it has run perfectly but recently the light has started flashing from time to time for a few seconds before returning to a steady glow, running smoothly all the time. I am puzzled by this behaviour, can anyone suggest the cause and a way to get that light to turn off?

A few options for you (in order of cost).

1) Someone local may have Techstream (the Toyota software used to do diagnostics) and offer help in reading the fault code that's caused the light to come on and be able to clear it depending on the issue (it may come back on straight away for example or return later).

2) Buy a VCI lead and end up with a copy of Techstream one way or another (a well known auction site and £15 will sort you out). You will need a laptop and very basic IT skills but from then on you can read your own fault codes and get Toyota specific data/testing done yourself.

3) Buy a generic ELM interface, use a phone app or laptop and hope it's a generic code.

4) take it to an independent, most will make a token charge to read the fault codes, consider though that knowing the fault sometimes is only the beginning and what caused it can take some investigation.

5) Take it to Toyota. You'll be billed at least 30 minutes labor but they'll quote you for the work which could be useful if it needs anything as you can then source the parts yourself assuming they can find the cause.

1 or 2 would be my choice.
