Touch And Go Sat Nav

Hello all

My current vehicle is a 2013 Hilux Invinceable and i have been having a problem with the Tough and Go Sat Nav. This will noy only be an issue with the Hilux as the system is fitted across the Toyota range, This is my forth Hilux in a row and the software seems more gimmickey that the previous ones. Why on earth would you want to find a hotel on Google then save the details onto a memory stick or send it via the internet to your vehicle (thats if you can get the vehicle to connet to your phone for internet). Why not just write down the post code and enter it into the sat nav. Much quicker. The main problem that I am having is the route selection and the lack of choice and details of the route before it is selected. I do not use the system all the time as I genrally have a fair idea where I am going, but when I do I find myself wanting directions I use the sat nav. The main problem is it does tend to take you down roads which are not suitable especially when I am towing. The software version I have at the moment is 2.9.4L and after speaking to Toyota GB yesterday they said that the was a software upgrade which would cost, but they could not say whether is would fix the problem. Does anyone have any information on the latest upgrade for Touch and Go?

Isn't this a basic problem with all sat nav devices.

A regular news item used to be HGV's causing problems because the driver followed their sat nav along unsuitable roads. The sat nav won't know when you are towing or not

Hello Mike

I did not used to be this way. The system in the 2010 model was much more freindly and I could view the route in detail before selection. It could be a case of the manufactures using a common software package that is one size fits all. Garmin do a system that the vehicle length, height and weight can be entered so the route calculation can be tailored to suit. This device is 299.00 and included is map updates for 46 countries. software upgrades and live traffic data. This Toyota upgrade is circa 150.00 and know body knows if it is any better. The only downside to the Garmin devide is that you have to keep hiding it away when you park up else it might get stolen and you have to pay for a new side window as well. Common software packages are a good idea and more cost effective, but you also end up with a problem like VW have.

I also found that the Satnav system in my 57 plate Avensis was more user-friendly than that in my 61 plate (which is Touch & Go Plus). T&G Plus looks prettier & has additional (but imo not particularly useful) features but overall I think that I preferred the older system.

& if using the "Eco" route on T&G you take your life in your hands as it will send you down tiny country lanes - once it looked like it was trying to route me via a "green" lane!

Not had a chance to see if Touch 2 with Go is any improvement on T&G.

I would have thought that a map update for T&G was £109 from http://www.toyota-mapupdates.eu /MyToyota/ToyotaToolbox ? I wouldn't think that a map update would change system behaviour though. On my T&G Plus system I have done updates for system (free) & mapping (cost).
