Avensis T27 Internal Door Handles

On the T27, the front door handles have a central silver painted strip on the surface that's the same colour as that in the centre console etc.

Does anyone know what's involved in replacing this as I've noticed a couple of scratches on mine. There doesn't appears to be any form of fixing screw to remove the handle with, and although the silver strip is separate to the handle itself, the whole thing seems to be part of the door trim panel - I don't think it would be worth the hassle of doing that.

The screw in the handle is hidden by a clever trim, which make the whole part look like it is one piece.

I used a removal trim tool (a screw driver will do), to lever off the inner trim.

Remove this trim and there is the screw.

This is what the trim looks like - post-76861-0-75592700-1443610332_thumb.j

With this trim removed and the access to the screw removed, the door car can be removed to access the handle.

I found out by looking at the above diagram then trying it on my car.

Apologies Konrad C - I should have been clearer in my original post as to what I meant. By 'handles', I mean the ones that you hold mainly to close the door with. I should have said 'door pulls'. It's the silver strip in the middle of that handle that I meant. Apologies again.

No apologies needed jack. My car has black handles and I did not realise that there were other trim options.

I found the part numbers and they look like press fit, but I have not tried. They are similar style of fitting to my brothers Renault Grand Scenic, which I had to remove to fix a window switch. From the diagram, you have to lever from the highest point to remove the handle cover. It has to be removed to access the screws, if you need to remove the door card.

The following photos show the trim removal and the screws holding the door card, as mentioned above.

Part numbers - 74611-05020 left & 74612-05030 right, for the fronts, 74646-05010 left & 74645-05010 right, for the rears.

When you see the parts, you will understand how simple it is to remove the handle covers.

Konrad - that's really helpful - thanks ever so much for that!

Yes, mine is slightly different to yours in that the 'face' of the handle has a silver painted insert in it as opposed to being one piece like yours, so not sure if it will prise out. Using the link to the parts catalogue, I'm going to ask the dealer for a price for this part before deciding to replace it - I've notices that mine has some fine scratches on it, so if it's not too much trouble and expense I'm going to replace it to keep thinks looking 100%.

I came across this issue on my first T27 & got these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231159054878 They cost me under £30 though at the time so the price has fairly jumped. You can get different colour to suit your trim.

Apologies, I think those look terrible, didn't know they existed though, but I guess it serves a purpose.

If you have the silver door grab handles like my old T-Spirit they definately serve a purpose. My current Avensis has white stitching so they actually match pretty well imo.
