Hi all

I used to own a Nissan Micra and we could uprate the brakes from the Nissan Pulsar GTIR as a direct fit for discs and callipers and some models had rear discs. At the moment on my corolla I have some cross drilled, vented and grooved front discs which are ok, but could be better still and rear drums.

Does the same apply with say the Supra or possibly the MR2, celica etc etc. Does anyone know any rear disc conversion that could work, annoying toyota didn't continue to use rear discs on the corolla 92-97 like they did on the pre 92 models.

Anyone ever tried doing such a conversion front or rear brakes?

thanks

Kev :)

AE102 GXi models had rear disc brakes... and I believe the AE111 G6R might have them... Earlier E9 GTi model rear disc brakes will also work, although they are smaller than the E10/E11 rear rotors. They still use the same calipers and everything as the E10/E11 models, except with a different rotor and bracket. Also, if you can find a Japanese parts supplier, any of the following models came with rear discs: AE101 Corolla/Sprinter GT saloon, AE101 Levin/Trueno GT/GT-Apex/GT-Z coupe, AE101 Corolla BZ-Touring estate, AE101 Corolla FX GT hatch, AE111 Corolla/Sprinter GT saloon, AE111 Levin/Trueno BZ-G and BZ-R, coupe, AE111 Sprinter Carib BZ-Touring estate.

I've done the rear disc conversion on my '93 AE102 saloon, so any questions you might have, I can probably answer.

My god I want to live next door to you ;)

Thanks you've been a great help in answering some of my questions, I'll contact you over doing the conversion as I really would like rear discs. I bet Fensport could source everything I need for the conversion too.

BTW my lights arrived from the US today, yep new grille required as you said, I may take a grille to a fibreglass specialist that I know who will alter it for me,.

but do you know of which particular grille I'll need by any chance?. The wiring looks simple enough. I take it one will be dip and the other main beam?

thanks again :D

How about I move next door to you? I would LOVE to be able to get an E10 hatchback. Well it's possible, but would probably cost in the order of £6000 just to get the thing imported legally, not even including the cost of the car to begin with!

Fensport can indeed source everything you need for the rear disc conversion, but I would recommend at least calling local breaker yards on the odd chance that they would have one of the E10/E11 models with rear discs. Perhaps someone here knows which UK E11 models had rear discs, if any? I'll be making a list of everything you'll need to complete the conversion.

There are two options for the grille. One is the one like my car has (all '93-'95 US/Canada model Corollas have this one). It came in grey plastic on all trim levels (standard, DX, LE), saloon and estate.

Here it is on my car (old pic). Only dipped beam is on.

For a better look, check out this one on eBay:

And here's the grille that came on '96-'97 models. It was body colour on all models. It's nearly identical to your factory grille, except it's made for the 9005/9006 headlights instead of the H4.

When you buy the grille, DO NOT buy an aftermarket one off eBay. The workmanship and fitment are both atrocious. I can see about getting a used factory one (or even a new Genuine Toyota one from a local dealer) if you would like.

On another note about the brakes, there is one upgrade option for the front: the 275mm rotor, twin-piston caliper brakes that came with the Japanese Levins equipped with the super strut suspension. They require some machining down of the caliper itself and the diameter of the rotor to fit on standard MacPherson strut suspension cars. I've also seen (very rarely) E10s and E11s with R32 Nissan Skyline 4-piston calipers, but I'm not sure on the specifics of that.

when can you move? ;)

I'll give the scrap yards a call before I contact fensport as no doubt I'll be in for a quite cost using them over a scrap yard. If you could list the parts I need I would be very grateful indeed.

If you could get me either of those grilles I would be 'extremely' grateful lol If you can't then don't worry, but I could pay you via paypal if you have an account, I'm very trust worthy. My eBay record is perfect and I'm heavily involved with the MSC (Micra Sports Club) who will also vouch I'm geniune.

The Skyline brake option sounds exactly what I'm looking for, although the Levin option sounds promising also. Thanks for all this info, and if there is anything I can help you with, please ask :)

This is my corolla, just wondering will new mounting holes be required to fit the new grille or will it be just a direct replacment?

The look of the car will be changing dramatically over the coming months, with the savage bodykit, lights and new paint work, will look a completely different car. I'll be able to get properly started on it in a few weeks.

thanks again

if your fronts are the same as the AE100, i have seen many AE100s with modified RX7 4-pot calipers in front.

Perhaps you can check if you can find those.
