Hello to all, seeing that ive sold me car (seat ibiza 16v cupra sport) and ive now only got to buy a rev2 turbo T-Bar, im wondering what is the best way to get power out of my motor to be.

Therefore whats the best order to do specific mods and what the maximal BHP - Torque i can get out of the car, oh and prices would be good to. Cheers

Also - is more power a NO NO in these cars, seeing as there light + powerfull and errrrm rear wheel drive!!!!!!!!! woo hoo!!

most importnat thing is to make sure you have good tyres on there first otherwise you'll be all over....

next step induction kit, downpipe and exhaust/de-cat etc and so many options from there, whats your budget

You'll get to a point where to much power makes the car undrivable ( so I've been told ), but I'm still heading for about 360 to 400bhp.

The best mods you can do is get an Induction Kit, Exhaust, Downpipe/decat, FCD, then up the boost to about 15PSI. You could go the Unichip route, which I highly recommend and so will a few others.

With these mods you could get anywhere upto 280bhp. Get some water injection and raise the boost level to 17PSI and you should see better performance.

If you're looking for anything over that, then you will be looking at a hybrid/bigger turbo, forgies, larger injectors, better head gasket etc, etc. Then you're taking a bit more £££.

im also startin to mod mine mate, im goin for:

apexi induction kit (comin this week)

boost guage (vital you get this before you play around with boost, the stock gauge is useless and slow to react)

new plugs, dizzy cap and leads (not really needed unless yours are knackered like mine are)

fuel cut (cheers jimlad lol, forgot about that!)

boost controller (probably a mechanical grainger one for now)

and then up the boost to 15PSI

eventually sports exhaust/decat which will add about 20bhp considering all the other mods installed already

They can be tuned for big power, but this also costs big money. On top of this, is the factor that most people forget, and this is insurance! Recently it has become increasingly tough to even insure a standard Turbo. I recently went for renawal (26, 1y NCB, no accidents, claims, driving 9 years) and the majority of insurers were quoting £1600 - £2000 which is frightening - esp. comming from insurers who 'are specialists in imported turbo cars'. Fortunately I got a good deal in the end, but this recent experience has left me more than a little apprehensive about carrying out any major power modifications.

If you can afford it start with a Rev3 tubby.

Therein lies the problem, unless you have mximum no claims, its impossible to insure a Turbo.

I found it is cheaper actually to insure a Rev 2 turbo than a Rev 3 N/A how messed up is that!

In terms of tuning, I kind of feel the FCD is a bit of a bodge job - so am saving my pennies for a Unichip.

If you are upping the boost, you could probably do with an uprated actuator aswell - the stock one may go soggy quite quick.

Looked at some instructions for fitting a boost gauge, it looks like a right royal pain the the *****.

And remember the golden rule of tuning - the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long...(unless the bank balance is proportional)

1. Tyres

2. New Sparkies, HT leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm

3. De-cat, exhaust, filter

4. Boost guage, boost valve & FCD.

Then you can up the boost by 6 psi easy and that gives you 60 bhp and about 80 ft/lb of torque ..

then you can do the fany stuff like chipping/new turbos/forged internals etc ..

the biggest BHP MR2 is the 680 bhp thang that was at crail the other week .. ran a 12 sec quater on a wet track ..

Thats pretty poor for a 680bhp car!! I guess the track was wet though.

I think the Fensport 500odd bhp 3SGTE Corolla is doing 11s or 12s...

Loads of potential in these engines.
