Battery Replacement 2006

I have had a search for my answer before posting and can't seem to locate it, I offer my apologies in advance if this has already been covered elsewhere on the forum.

I have a brand new Battery from my old megane 1.9dci (3 months old to be precise and and still fully charged) and I was wondering if this will be ok for my avensis 2.2 d4d, if so is it just a matter of replacing it?

Will I need to get anything reset like mobilizer etc, I know I will lose radio presets but they are easy enough to re tune, I am just worried that it won't start after changing Battery.

Cheers

Bert.

Hi Bert,

The two main issues with Battery replacement are capacity and terminals. If the Battery has enough capacity in amp hours and fits in the cage, and the terminals fit, there won't be a problem with starting. They are almost all 12v lead acid batteries.

If you want to avoid all the issues like having to reset your radio programmes etc then what you need to do is get a set of jumper leads (or even lighter cables with crocodile clips on them). Connect the leads from your new Battery to the terminal connections of your old Battery in parallel, making sure you get the polarity right (ie red to red, balck to black). Now you can remove the terminals and lift out the old Battery - making sure that the wires remain attached to the car's terminal connectors at all times. Now you can install the new battery an once you have tightened the terminal connections you can remove the wires. this way you don't interrupt the circuit at any time and you keep all your settings. Simples!

Thanks guys for all the info but the Battery was too big in size to fit so will have to get one that fits.

Just for the record all radio stations remained

Yes the Battery was to big so the clamp would not go on, I have now given the Battery away to a good friend.

Will try Eurocarparts as you suggest, many thanks

does your clamp look like this, you have position the Battery at an angle so the clamp fits. I have put your details into ECP 2006 2.2 diesel it that too brings back 096 batteries.

When I change the Battery on the Mk1 a couple of weeks ago, I got mine from Euro Car parts and used the code MOT10 or what ever recent code was operating. Got 10 per cent discount. Got a far better Battery for the price of an average one.

Also keep a door open and keys in the pocket, just in case the doors lock! Mine did and I did have my keys on me. The radio remembered the stations, but not the time, the trip counter reset itself and the car clock reset too. The radio is Sony so I set it to auto time and it got the time back.

With my Mk3, cable ties were used to hold the Battery clamp as the bar part no. 74451B was missing. Replaced that.

That J clamp normally snaps on me when un doing the 10mm bolt on the top, first time Toyota had one in stock ! 2nd time it was ordered.

code is EXTRA10 at the moment.
