Hi, I have a 2004 petrol Avensis with 110k on the clock - is there any consensus about if/when the timing chain should be replaced ? Thanks, Stephen

So long as the engine has had regular oil and filter changes, then the chain should last the life of the engine.

Only if it is noisy would a change be necessary.

I have not heard of a avensis with a bad chain yet , lets hope its a good thing, keep the chain lubricated with regular services and correct spec oil as mentioned by Konrad.

My 2.2 Avensis is now at 210000 miles oil changed regularly so no issues, changing this chain would also have to include the chain wheels and tensioner mechanism to do a proper job. If no noise leave well alone, access makes this a tricky job even for experienced Toyota technicians.
