Touch And Go Sat Nav

Have just taken ownership of a 2 year old Yaris Hybrid with the Touch and Go system . Does anyone know why the satnav just says Loading Map whenever the satnav button is pressed while on the move? The only way I have managed to get the map screen itself on is to park up, put the accessory power switch on, and then try. Even then it can take up to 5 mins to bring the map screen up! Comments / advice appreciated please. :ermm:

As with any sat nav, you're not supposed to operate the system (ie change route, plan a route, etc) whilst on the move, and the operation of sat navs is subject to the same legislation as mobile phones.

My Garmin doesn't allow any changes to be made whilst the vehicle is in motion - so presumably the same applies to Touch & Go.

Who says its not a passenger operating it?

OP this isn't normal, as the car is under warranty I'd take it into a dealer to have a look at for you.

In our Yaris and Prius it take no more than 20-45 seconds on average.

'Who says its not a passenger operating it?'

Regardless of who is operating it, my Garmin won't allow operation whilst the vehicle is in motion. A message is displayed advising one to park before attempting to operate.

But this has little relevance in OPs case (and it's likely to be a setting on your Garmin you can deactivate. You can on my Garmin Nuvi).

Thanks for your views on this. Just to clarify, I was not intending to actually input a route into the satvav while driving, as that would be foolish (though not actually illegal). I was merely intending to switch it on to see where I was during a journey. Have since discovered that I actually need to park up, turn off the ignition (cant turn off engine as it's hybrid) turn back on again to Acc position then press the Nav button. After about 3 mins it loads the position screen - so can carry on the journey. Great, but obviously far from practical. Looks like a trip back to the dealers I reckon!

That is definitely not normal for Toyota's T & G units. You can ordinarily switch in and out of the NAV map at any time whether moving or stationary...

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update for anyone interested. Took the Yaris to the local dealers, and they replaced the SD card, and updated the firmware. Result! Can now switch in and out of the satnav while on the move. Top marks to the local dealership.
