Technical Info?!

Greetings Y'all

Recently posted about noisy tappets and found out the car uses rockers instead of hydrolic lifters. So the oil change wasn't overly need but never a bad thing to do i suppose. What i want to know is where could i find the technical info for set up of the cam shaft and rockers. Idealy want to re set the spacings as they're bound to have shifted over time leaving me with a noisy idle. Not terrible, but i'd like to keep on top of everything i can.

Does anyone know where i could find this or have already found that you could pass on to me?

Any info or suggestions is always appreciated!

Chris

The correct valve clearances on the 2ZZGE are:

Intake - 0.08-0.18mm

Exhaust - 0.22-0.32mm

The rockers however are not adjustable, adjustment is by shims between the rocker and the valve which require a special tool to hold the rocker and valve apart whilst the shim is replaced

Lee, couple of questions I have:
Are the valve clearances you gave for the engine hot or cold?
Going back to the old rule of 9 on a 4 cylinder 8 valve engine where you turn the engine until (say) valve numbers 1 and 5 are fully down then check tappets 8 and 4. Can you use this method on the Toyota, understanding of course that with a 16 valve engine there’ll be a difference in numbering?
If you put No 1 cylinder on the rock (ie piston at TDC, exhaust valves just closing, inlet valves just opening) is it OK to check all the valve clearances on Cylinder No 4? Or do you have to turn the engine until the peak of the cams are 180 deg opposite the valve stem to make sure you are in the middle of the cam base circle and nowhere near the opening ramps before you measure the clearance?
If you have to use the 180 deg method then what order do they go in so as to minimise the turning of the engine.

BANG! And the answer is there. Cheers fella.

The specialist tool you mentioned, is that something that is required or just something that would make life easier? As with most specialst tools i find, you can do it without them, just takes a hell of a lot more effort.

As you can probably tell I would like to do this myself but if its truely not possible i'l just have to bite the bullet.
