Hello

I am new here but I recently had to use the groups past postings to find how to fix an alarm fault with my mothers UK 2000 Toyota Corolla 1.4 GLS.

It all started one day when there was an alarm going off somewhere. We thought at first it was the factory over the road but it was her car. Basically the alarm would sound for 2-3 minutes and then go off and then about ten minutes later it would go again. The only way to shut it up was to disconnect the Battery.

We arrange for it to go in to an auto electrician who subsequently diagnosed it with a faulty alarm siren. They disconnected the siren but told us we could not get a new part.

We wanted to get the car back to full spec so I started to research this issue. First I needed to get the old siren off which is inside the drivers side inner wing which necessitated taking off the arch liner. Once I did this I opened the old siren to discovered why it had gone faulty. Basically these sirens have a Battery back up in them which looks similar to a AA batteries. These batteries had degraded and leaked acid all over the circuit board.

The original part number was 08192-44810 (made for Toyota by Delta Electronics) . I looked online in eBay and found the same siren with the part with one digit difference 08192-44811 (made for Toyota by Cobra).

I got in touch with member Parts King who works in the parts department at

Lindop Toyota Queensferry. He did some research but could not find 08192-44811. However he remembered a bulletin that had come out some time ago about a part number revision. It turns out that the new part number is T08912-1A981 (cost £50). He ordered the part in for me and then sent photos. All the writing on the outside was the same so I had it sent on to me.

I had to sort out various corrosion issues around the carrier and inner wing before hand but It is now fitted and working fine. Much to the relief of all concerned

The one thing that I do find strange about all this is that the alarm siren should really be down to need a service (noted either in the manual or service Book) after so many years so that the either the batteries or whole unit can be changed so as to prevent all these problems. There is no mention of it anywhere. I know from someone who has contact with Skoda, that the alarm siren is down in the manual for a service with them.

I hope this tale is useful for people on here and saves alot of irritation from alarms going off when they should not.

P.S if I have put this in the wrong place then can someone please move it to where it needs to be

Well done Stuart, i like it when somebody gets into a problem and sorts it all out and I'm sure it'll help somebody out, I have a couple of questions though, you wrote " these sirens have a Battery back up in them which looks similar to a AA batteries" did you mean similar to two (or four) AA batteries and by the way, were the batteries re-chargeable type or just the ordinary ones?

the other question I'm sure you can guess: Any pictures?
