Unidentified Box Under Aurion Prodigy Bonnet

I have a 2007 Toyota Aurion Prodigy, and today i had to clean some corrosion off my negative terminal after finding my car a little harder to start and my after market stereo kept going back to its default settings (this could be unrelated).

Anyway after cleaning it all up and spraying it with a protectant i noticed a black wire that looks like it should have been connected to the Battery. It wasn't connected

when i took the terminal clamp off and there was no corrosion on the clip where there would have been if it had.

There is also a red wire going to the positive terminal and that is connected. Following where the wire goes it leads to a little black box that is sitting against the guard above the fuse box and has a little green globe in the middle. Upon inspecting it there is no other wiring going anywhere and it is only connect via double sided tape.

When i put the black wire on the negative terminal the green light flashes intermittently.

Does anyone know what this box could be and what it is for and do i need it connected?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics i hope it works.

Regards

Weird! Is it definitely not connected to anything else? Might be some sort of radio tracker or maybe even a radar jammer!

weird indeed, it does seem to have a circuit board underneath, Definately not connected to anythng else but the other weird thing is i don't ever remember seeing it before lol

I was thinking it could be a weird Battery checking status but the mind boggles. That is why i posted it here in case someone else has one or knows what it is :)

I think it maybe a trip to the old auto electric guy and see if they know.

Update: apparently it is some rust inhibitor that sends a low voltage signal through the coating between the steel of the car and the paint that supposed to help the zinc coating regenerate if there is a stone chip etc that has penetrated. This is according to a you tube video.
