Toyota Prius 2010 What Does This Symbol Mean?

Hi,

I've just recently purchased a nice looking 2010T Spirit model Prius and it's been great to drive and it's definatly a quirky car! Yesterday upon driving off, it came up on the left hand side of the screen on the top display on the dash the seatbelt symbol in red, and then a picture of the car in green as if looking down on the car from above and a single(or sometimes 2 green dots behind the front seats it seems) I haven't beeen able to get a picture of this, however after 30 seconds or so, it vanishes and nothing else pops up and there is no problems with driving the car.

Can anyone tell me what it means? I've looked in the owners manual but can't seem to find any mention of it at all.

Regards,

Mike.

Rear seat belt indicators?

The T Spirit may be have a different set up to my '09 T4, but if I open the rear doors before driving off, I get a rear seat belt status indicator in the centre of the dash screen. Pressing the 'Display' button on the steering wheel switches it back to the last used screen.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I did think it might be this however I have a childs car seat fitted on one side with the seatbelt connected full time, and a childs booster seat on the other side but without the seat belt connected...I'm guessing it might be the weight triggering the system? The booter seat is one of those cheap lightweight plastic type which is why I disregarded it as it's so light in weight, but I've seen mention of that the seatbelt reminder sensors are sensitive.

on my Avensis the rear seatbelt indicators come on as long as the belts are unplugged - doesn't matter that there is no weight on the rear seats.

As there are no airbags to trigger for the rears unlike the front I suspect that the rear seats don''t have weight sensors.

It will be easy enough to test if it is the rear seatbelts not being plugged in.

Is this what you're seeing?

If so, this is the rear seatbelt status indicator mentioned by others above. It automatically appears if someone in the back buckles or unbuckles their seatbelt too.

Hi,

PeteB yes that's the symbol for sure, usually it's a single green dot, although I have had 2 pop up before when starting off. I press the DISP button on the steering wheel and it goes away.

That suggests the other seatbelts are fastened, although you appear to have said only one is, for the child seat?

You can also get back to this display by cycling the DISP button.

If you've only got one blob and only one seatbelt is fastened, it suggests a wiring failure - if you're at all concerned, you could try fastening them one by one to see what blobs light up.

Personally, I like to know people in the back are belted in because in a crash an unbelted rear passenger can seriously injure or even kill a person in the front.

I did once hear of a driver being killed in what should have been a survivable crash by something that had been on the rear window shelf - ironically, it was a first aid kit!

As above, also comes up on start up if the rear door(s) have been opened at any point when the car has been off.

Can be selected using display on steering wheel at any point also, scroll through until you get to that display.
