Alternative To Bosch Aerotwin For The Avensis

Hi

Don't know about anyone else, but I've had a T27 Estate for 4 years now and I have never been happy with the wipers.

They leave a very thin smear meaning it's a second after the wipe, before it evaporates off the screen and leaves you with clear glass, and after a few months every new set of wipers starts missing the section right in front of the driver, leaving a pool of water behind.

I have always used Bosh Aerotwin (because I can't find anything else) and I must have had 8 sets in the 4 years I've owned the car. Usually they are OK for the first couple of months then they go rubbish again.

I bought a brand new pair last week, and they leave the smear, and are skipping and squeaking from day 1, I've done a lot of miles in the rain this week and they are driving me nuts, so they are off back to Halfords now for a refund!

I can't believe this is a problem with a cleaner because I don't clean the car myself, it gets taken to a hand car wash when dirty and I use whichever one I'm driving past all over the country, so it's not been the same detergent each time. I don't use a consistent brand of washer fluid either, just whatever happens to be on the shelf when I run out.

Anyone else found any other brands of wiper that fit this car?

Anyone else consistently unhappy with their Avensis wipers, compared to all the other cars they've owned?

Thanks

The Aerotwins came top in the latest Auto Express test (Sept 2014), followed by Wiper Blades Aerowiper and the Michelin Stealth - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/60008/wiper-blades-tested-windscreen-wipers-product-test

Some have found the PIAA blades quite good - http://piaaonline.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=48

Toyota's oem blades?

never tried these but they claim to fit T27 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231275069423

Wiperblades only list Bosch for T27, not own-label. Neither Michelin nor PIAA list a blade to fit T27.

Hate to think how much you are paying in Halford's - usually ~£25 or less on Amazon etc. for a set of A539S

When I swapped my blades to Bosch Aerotwin they were exactly identical to the originals, leading me to assume Bosch are factory spec. The car was only a year old so I assume the old blades were the originals.

I've found in the past that wiper judder is due to misalignment - twisting the wiper arm such that the blade is at right angles to the screen cured it. That obviously only works with metal arms tho, not sure if twisting is an option on the Avensis.

The other thing I've found over the years is that the screen gets grimy by motorway driving. Try cleaning the screen properly with a good grease removing screen cleaner.

Hope this helps :)
