Hi have just bought a 09 Gen 3 Prius, Toyota says i have a minor sump oil leak,I went to purchase a new gasket ,but the parts person seemed to think that there isnt one ,just a sealer is used ,are they correct ?

Also will i need a special tool to remove the oil filter +refit ?thanks.

On my avensis there is no sump gasket just a sealant that they want 70 for. I rather go motor factors wynns sump sealer for around 15 20 pound.

I always used Loctite SI 5980 on sump and valve covers, never failed but needs several hours of cure time. Cost £5 - £6.

Yes they are correct and it is not just any old silicone sealer. Unless it is really leaking badly I would be tempted to leave it until it became heavy, otherwise it is quite a big job to strip the sump off, clean it up etc etc
