Interesting question. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that's compatible with an iPad? I've had dash cams in the past and all gave up the ghost within six months or so. I used to drive for a living so they were used all day every day, so I have to take that into account, but the reality is, most are the usual Chinese tat that breaks within months rather than years. It's the reason I like Japanese engineering. I have some vintage Japanese hi-fi separates and the quality is beyond anything you can buy today. So does anyone know of a good quality Japanese dash cam?

afaik most of the really good dash cams come out of S.Korea (don't ask me why :dontgetit: ) but you will pay many times £50 for the current ones (the CF-100 used to be £150-200).

I wonder whether they're Japanese designed but made in Korea to reduce the cost?

I have a 'Nextbase' in mine for over two years without any problems and quite happy with it. It was £52 then & seems a popular make. Have a look in Halfords as they stock them. I did not buy from them tho' I have it semi hard wired without any wires showing at all and comes on with ignition.

The Which? Best Buy that was under £100 was the Transcend DrivePro 200 at around £80

& his website is http://www.techmoan.com

One of the nice things about the CF-100 is that it has a proper buffered parking mode if you want that but on an Avensis to take advantage of that you will need to hard-wire it & strongly recommended to use a Battery discharge protection device (so more money ~£25). If you want to add GPS it's an add on (Morgan Computers has it for ~£20 delivered).

If you don't want the rear camera of the CF-100 Morgan Computers has the CW-100 (essentially the same as the main CF-100 unit) for £40 (& you can probably find a 10% discount code).
