Is The Consumption Of 17.6L/100Km Correct? For Avensis 2001

HI All,

I have just bought a second hand (used) avensis 2001. when I press on button Trip, I see that the vehicle is consuming 17.6l/100KM. is that correct? the engine is a fuel VVTI model.

if yes, I will be seriously in trouble because my previous Toyota was an old AE100 and was just taking 5l /100KM.

if response is no. what can be the path diagnostic I can follow to fix this?

regards,

Patrice.

that's about 16mpg so no, that shouldn't be what an Avensis consumes on average but what engine, under what conditions (cold starting, when cruising), is that an instantaneous reading or over time etc. etc.

HI Scott,

thank you for your reply.

it is an overtime reading. there is also an amber module LED(engine LED) appearing on the board).

my engine is a VVTI and don't know if it is 1.0, 1.8 or 2.0 .

regards,

Patrice.

have you tried comparing fuel usage over distance manually (at fill up) to see how it compares with what is being displayed? Even when new older car computers tended to not be very accurate.

Hi Patrice

Do as Scott suggested and measure how far the car goes on a tank of fuel.

The orange engine symbol means that their is a problem with the engine, and guess that this could be linked to your high fuel consumption. The O2 sensors are the likely culprits. They will be giving the wrong fuel mixture.

Get it to a garage if you don't have an OBD diagnostic scanner to get the fault codes.

You should have details of the car when you got it. Things like taxation class, insurance, and roadworthiness certificates should detail your car.

Go to the following link and type in the VIN number where it says "VIN search". You can find the VIN number on the B pillar between the doors. Also it is stamped onto the firewall of the engine bay.
