Rav4.2 3Dr Rear Headrest Question

Hi folks.

I have a rear headrest missing off my 2001 3 door. I could probably find a replacement at a breakers yard but wondered if anyone knew if there were any other headrests that might fit. Ideally, I'm looking for something that is not quite so high to improve rear visibility.

A head restraint, or headrest, is designed to protect one's head and neck in the event of a collision. So fitting something lower in height is not going to be as effective or safe for rear passengers.

Frosty. I know what a head rest does. Not sure I agree with your comments about size though. The rear headrests on the 4.2 are much larger than they need to be and later models do have smaller head restraints thus proving my point.

I'm sure that qualified engineers will have calculated head rest size and that the different models will have different sizes on safety grounds rather than how they look. So no I do not think you have proved your point.

I have worked for 35 years in the automotive industry, 5 of which buying retraints systems. I think this qualifies to make the statement about the size of the 4.2 rear headrests. They do not need to be so large as an alternative design would be just as effective. I posted on this forum in good faith to see if any other owners had experiences with using other types of headrest on their vehicles. I was not expecting such patronizing responses. So Frosty unless you are a qualied restraints engineer I suggest you stick to moderating, particularly your own input.
