Avensis Sol 1999 2.0 Petrol Stuttering When Warm

Hi Guys,

I have an ongoing problem with my Avensis Sol 1999, 2.0 Petrol.

It drives perfectly when cold, but when it's warmed up it starts to stutter when accelerating, no matter what gear - it feels like the engine has no power anymore, I can build up speed but it takes a while and feels like driving in a too high gear all the time. If I accelerate fully it picks up a bit more speed but you can still feel a slight stutter.

The weird thing is, sometimes when I accelerate very soft and gently you can feel it suddenly has the "bite" again and accelerates normal - so it feels like something gets clocked up and only lets through a certain amount of power.

It only happens when the engine is warm, spark plugs have been changed, the garage could not find anything when I get it checked last time.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Hi

Mine did the same thing then one of the lambda sensors were faulty. It also did drive normal then cold, but once it warmed up, the sensor started to send false readings to ECU and it messed up the air/fuel ratio. I also had a fault code that said sensor wiring fault.

Your car if it has the 3S-FE engine, then I would look at the EGR. Yes the only petrol Avensis with an EGR fitted.

Also unique to the 3S-FE engine is the EDU and some other engine control items. These are mentioned in the Haynes manual, for UK Mk1 Avensis.

Still look at the O2 sensor, cam and crank sensors.
