Hi all,

Is it possible to retrofit heated seats and/or power folding mirrors?

These are things I have done to previous cars as they have had the wiring looms already in place but needed one or two bits to complete the systems.

This would be on a 2012 Avensis Tourer TR.

It depends if the loom has the extra cables in them. As you said, Toyota used to have the loom available.

For the electric folding mirrors, the switch needs a hole in the lower dash. This means sourcing a replacement lower dash with switch. The mirrors are straightforward. Then everything depends on the plugs and wiring, plus any fuses or relays to connect the power. Same goes for the heated seats.

What you need is electrical schematic diagram.

It is a lot of effort, time and money for what you want to do.

What is needed is access to a scrapped car with the features built in. Then you can see what differences there are, and take photographs for reference.

When I bought my car I knew it had most features I wanted, and only missed a couple I have in my Mk1 - The bluetooth was limited to phone calls only and only one phone can be connected, at a time. There was no USB socket, only the AUX and I never use that. It was not a problem as I sorted that easily with an adapter that covered both issues. I have a second bluetooth that allows a second mobile and music playback, as well as the USB. All fully integrated and controlled from the steering controls, perfect.

I am not too disappointed to not have electric folding mirrors, as I can reach the passenger side mirror from inside the car and push it out. Long arms.

Heated seats! Are you changing the interior to leather of the higher spec cars?

Please can you tell me about the USB / AUX input retrofit please? What's involved?

Here is my post of the Bluetooth/USB install. It is actually easier to access the rear of the stereo on the T25 compared to the T27. There are less things to remove.

Once the stereo has been released, you don't need to unplug the cables as shown, just plug in the adapter cable then route it to your favoured position (usually the glovebox).

The first is the USB/microSD/AUX only unit, whilst the second has bluetooth and is supplied with a microphone.

I like these adapters and the reason I chose the that brand and seller, was because the price and delivery time of only a few days. There are more established brands like Yatour, Xcarlink, and Connects2. The Yatour is good but has two problems for me - no option bluetooth. Xcarlink, and Connects2 USB cost a lot more than the LaPower unit, and then add the bluetooth module. So you pay about £80 for the USB adapter then £60 for the Bluetooth module. This module also adds to the extra wires to be installed.

One minor note about the LaPower. The USB does not support iPod or iPhone products only MP3 via memory sticks or microSD cards! The Bluetooth version can play back and control via the Bluetooth using A2DP. I tried my android phone and it is perfect! The tracks can be changed via the steering controls like the USB playback. The AUX socket can be used, but you can remotely change tracks, and the audio may be inferior. The Connects2/Xcarlink has iPod adapters, but again it is the cost.

I have researched and used some of the products (except Yatour). Glad there are good aftermarket options without having to change the car stereo.
