Does anybody know what to do regarding wet back seats in the Toyota Aygo. Initially I thought it was condensation and i had thought nothing of it, but i was due to have passengers in the back of the car and noticed that the car seats were both damp, any advice?

whatever you do DONT DRY the car out

get it back to toyota as the back end of some aygo's are like teabags and water floods in through them.

the leaks are from numerous places,i.e. rear lights,high level brake light,tailgate glass rubber stops,the 2 ventilation vents.

the list goes on.toyota know about this issue and have extended their guarantee on leaks to 5 years so going

by your description you are just in the extended period of cover.

Then again a 2011 Aygo should still be within its five year/100k mile new car warranty.

I have a 2008 Aygo which leaks as Eygo says "like a teabag"! All the seats and carpets are wet, the boot has puddles, spare wheel and floor is rusty, the material on the roof is rust stained and the rear demist has packed up. I have to sit on car mats when I drive and can't use the back seats nor the boot.

Good advice from Eygo - take it to your local Toyota dealer and see what they say or email the CEO of Toyota UK. I did both and got told the car is outside the 5 year warranty so nothing doing. I bought the car from a second hand car dealer who didn't really want to know and offered to do some dodgy minor repairs to the rear windscreen/ hatchback with mastic and silicon sealant.

Unfortunately I am stuck with a car that I bought in April 2015 and is useless.

Toyota provided a goodwill warranty to deal with water leaks on the Aygo - this extension was for five years from first registration. So, yours being a 2008 model, is outside of the goodwill period.

Commonly water leaks on the Aygo can originate from the rear light clusters, vents behind the rear bumper and also the high level brake light (which is probably where the water is leaking from which has stained the headlining). Resealing these areas with sealant (not bathroom sealant) can cure the leaks.

Your contract of sale will be with the dealer you bought the car from. After you bought the car in April, when did you first notice the wet seats, etc? When did you approach the dealer re rectification?

I first noticed the wet seats around the first/ second week of September. After speaking to Toyota I called Citizens Advice who advised me to go to the dealer.

I went to see the dealer during the last week of September. He stood with two of his mates around me and the car trying to intimidate me and make out the leaks were my fault. I told them what Toyota had advised me that the leaks were, as you say, with the high level brake light (usually replaced), two rear light clusters, the seals on the back windscreen/ hatchback and Toyota usually fit additional seals around the doors and in the back vents. One by one they all walked off.

Once again, I called Citizens Advice who advised me to write to the dealer to claim a refund as the goods he sold were unfit for purpose and not of serviceable quality. which I did, twice. He didn't reply so now I've issued court proceedings to claim a refund.

I was interested to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

So you're seeking redress through the courts system. Presumably the selling dealer was an independent and not a Toyota dealer.

Some of the first generation Aygo's were prone to water leaks as were the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107 - they're effectively the same car made by a Joint Venture between Toyota and PSA (Peugeot/Citroen). So numbers of Aygo/C1/107 owners have had experience of water leaks from a number of sources within the cars.

Yes and yes. The independent dealer didn't want to repair/ replace the parts suggested by Toyota and had quoted me over £800 for. He wouldn't reply to my letters asking for a refund or his ADR. Citizens Advice advised me to do this so that I could get a refund and buy another second hand car.

When I talked to the guy at the Toyota dealer he said the same about the Aygo/ C1 and Peugeot. My friend has a 2015 C1 and has no problems with hers. Its a shame its a lovely car and the engine goes ok around town but the back is now rusting fairly badly.

The 2015 C1/Aygo/108, although based on the first generation C1/Aygo/107 (2006-2014), is the second generation, and should be a different proposition as regards water leaks.
