Window On W Reg Yaris Goes Up At An Angle

My wife just rang me to say that the window will only go up at an angle, 75 degrees forward according to her. Any suggestions as to the cause, cure, and possible cost of fixing? I have some other issues with the car - and although it has served us very well her time may well be up...

The windows usually sit in runners, it sounds like yours has came out of one, or a runner has came loose. Stripping the door card off for a look is the way forward.

Haven't taken one off your particular car but there's usually some screws somewhere then the rest pings off. Try around the door handle or behind the bit you put your fingers to open the door.

Thanks again Alan. Managed to get the door panel off without too much difficulty. It would appear that the glass has pushed outwards beyond the rubber seal, but I'll have to wait until the weather improves before I can have a proper look at it.

It's also possible the scissor-lift thingy (Gah, what's it called??) has sheared a bolt somewhere and is only pushing up on one side. They're expensive new, but pretty cheap from brokers yards and eBay.

e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-55-TOYOTA-YARIS-DRIVER-FRONT-WINDOW-WINDER-MOTOR-P-N-0130822017-/281686203509

The door card is held in by a few screws and loads of push-pins. It's a bit of a bugger to get out if you've never done it before and will require some careful wiggling to get the plastic hooks off without breaking them.

I think the Haynes manual can be helpful there, but some members may have better guides!

I've had another quick look at things in the short space of time between torrential downpours (has St. Swithin's day been moved to October?).

I've managed to remove the door card and, as you can see from the attached composite picture, the glass on the driver's door has been forced to the outside of the rubber channel. The forward tilt of the window is at least partly, if not entirely, down to the resistance coming at the front. The question is, why is the glass being deflected outwards in the first place? Could the regulator be distorted, or has the rubber channel itself been deflected inwards? If the weather relents I may get hold of some silcone lubricant to see if this sorts things, but I'm not optimistic. I've got a service scheduled in for Tuesday already, so I'll ask for an assessment of what's going on at that point. Fortunately I can close the window, with a fair bit of manhandling of the window.

Incidentally, it probably isn't significant, but the bottom of the window pane isn't straight, but undulating in an apparently random way. This doesn't seem to be significant with regards to the effectiveness of the glass, but it seems odd not to manufacture the glass with a straight bottom edge.

This is supposedly the window regulator for my Yaris model: https://www.valeoservice.co.uk/en/ResultByRef?ref=850415
