Timing Chain, Question?

facelift 2007 2.2 d4d avensis estate

Hi, im here to ask if anyone can answer a question for me, firstly let me quickly say why? i bought this car as a cat c frontal damage, got it repaired and then ran it for around 6 weeks. In this time i found it was useing water, but apart from this the car ran very well.

Im in the mot business myself and one of my traders said he could take the head of get it tested, skimmed and put back on, so i agreed he could do it. He did and put it back together only to find the turbo wasnt kicking in, the car ran but was very slow through the gears without the turbo? and the particulate filter was leaking / blowing slightly.

He then told me the injectors were faulty, and since redoing the filter and turbo for the leak it wont run, apparently no 2 injector is filling the piston? so now its a non runner?

Today ive taken the injectors to the diesel people to be tested.

Might be a silly question, but does any tech or engine guy on here know if the timing was say a tooth out, would the car run? could this be the problem.
