Burning Smell From 15 Plate Aygo

Recommended Posts

Posted

Car has about 8000 miles on it already so it should be broke in but it always has this burning smell after usage/ while the engine is still running, oil levels are ok etc etc

It's the same smell as if you've just lit a firework

Any clues ?

Is the smell from inside or outside the car? Front or back?

Outside mostly Front - No engine temp probs, oil levels coolant etc all fine but it definitely doesn't smell right .

I don't know whether its due to it being a new engine and havn't been fully run in

Do any of the wheels feel hotter to the touch than the others?

The engine is fully run in by 1000 miles so it should be ok in that respects.

I agree with Frostyballs... check to see if any of the brakes are stuck on. Also, check to see if anything has blown up and burnt onto the exhaust. Friend of mine had this a few years ago with a shopping bag...

if you have a manual aygo ,do you rest your foot on the clutch pedal if you do

then maybe its the clutch your smelling it is a similar smell to brakes.

i had a car years ago and the release arm wasn't releasing fully so in effect

i had been slipping the clutch during normal driving without knowing

and i did get that burning smell

I just had my clutch replaced after a burning smell followed by a puff of smoke then really high revs with no power.

Still got the larger clutch for under £300.00 and had it replaced in a day but the M27 at night in the rain was not top of my Christmas list :)
