Another T180 Head Gasket Failure

Such a shame I had to return the 2007 Auris T180 I bought recently to the dealer as it overheated and was tested positive for hydrocarbons in the coolant so it has a blown head gasket and for me that means walk away as it no longer under Mr T's warranty.

Lucky for me it was within 30 days of purchase so I got a full refund from the dealer but I'm gutted as I really loved the car and it was spotless in every other way :(

So off the back of this I have decide to buy a petrol Auris instead. I think the day of the modern diesel is numbered, you clearly can't keep such a dirty burning engine clean without eventually choking it to death and killing it and it appears Mr T has come to the same conclusion and moved away from diesel technology and I don't blame them as their petrol engines have bullet proof reliability as we all know :)

So back to searching for another good car in my area!

Toyota haven't given up on flogging cars with diesel engines, they've started to use BMW diesels though. They've also got things like the Proace van which uses a PSA/Ford diesel engine.

There's probably still some value in buying a new diesel car and treating it right from the start but buying an old one - of whatever make - is an almost certain recipe for disaster.

Toyota haven't abandoned diesel engines - having introduced a new family of diesels earlier in the year for the Land Cruiser and Hilux (Far Eastern markets) - http://blog.toyota.co.uk/toyota-turbodiesel-engines-cleaner-and-more-efficient

Why not a Hybrid one? Still has the petrol engine in it, but has the fuel economy of a contemporary diesel and even better!

Yeah a hybrid might be an option, I will have to test drive one and see what it's like, it might work better for me with the type of journeys I do :)

Only in Europe where doing without a diesel option currently would mean abandoning 1/2 the market & making the other 1/2 unprofitable due to loss of economies of scale.

& they don't have the current generation of BMW diesels but the last one.

There is still a place for diesels in commercials etc. but it was never really suited to being used in city cars for short shopping trips. Unfortunately government tax regimes drove the populace towards them ...

Exactly, which makes me wonder where the government will turn to if the revenue from the diesel brigade starts to diminish. Maybe the Hybrid Brigade. Wonder how Wayne and his crowd will relish paying about £300 a year Road Tax.

Never!

Though is it from 2017 when most NEW hybrids will still pay £140 road tax coz not ZERO emissions????? :fear::eek:

Either way, Tom - the government will get mine, yours and everyone elses money via another backdoor taxing scheme....!

I mean where was Poll Council tax in the old days?

20% VAT?

Pay for university fees?

I still remember when I used topay 35p/litre LPG or 56p/litre petrol :naughty::yahoo:

Does anyone know if you can retrofit the fuel mpg/range to an auris that doesn't already have it fitted?
