Heating Not Working, Thermostat?

Hi,

Noticed the other week that my Prius heating was working fine, however prior to it no longer working it was heating up quickly and quite hot, but now it's lukewarm regardless of what temperature you have it set to which was evident this morning on my way to work.

My feelings are it's the thermostat, is this something that can be done by a regular garage as the Prius has its own way of working with regards to the ICE starting up etc and i'm concerned I may need to visit a Toyota dealer should it be anything other than this. Has anyone else had this issue before? I see lots of posts about invertor coolant and them packing up along with pumps etc, but none relating to thermostats. My car had the recall for the invertor ECU software done at my local Toyota dealer a few weeks back.

Regards,

Mike.

Yes an ordinary garage can do this job, although your cooling system is pressurised whilst working it allows the owner to top it up when cold.

If your vehicle is still under a warranty it's advisable to tell them to use genuine parts and cooling inhibitor.

Although a manufacturers warranty cannot be voided by the use of non genuine parts since an EU ruling a few years ago, it saves having arguments with dealerships who are not aware of this ruling and continue to try and monopolize customers.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I have booked the car in at my local Toyota dealer to have it looked at. I have been seeing lots of posts about broken air mix servo units which seem to have similier results to what I am experiancing, I guess i'll find out soon what the issue it, and more importantly how much it's going to cost to be fixed!

UPDATE:

Had my car booked in at my local Toyota dealer, it's the "heater box" which is at fault and it's only going to cost £1737 to fix!!!

The part is over £900 inc VAT and the labout is the rest of the cost as apparently the dash has to be removed.

Guess i"ll be taking the car back to where I bought it from, onl took it to my local dealer for an invertor ECU update and asked them while they was there to look at the heating issue which happened 4 weeks after buying the car, will get an official invoice and presenting it to them tomorrow detailing what needs to be done etc.
