Faulty Cd Player

The CD player in my 2003 Corolla has been playing intermittently for some time. I suspected the copy discs were at fault. Just bought a brand new CD and find it won't work at all. Looked at a few videos on You Tube and the problem of fixing it looks quite horrendous.

Any other members had problems and found easier solutions to fixing it please?

Do you mean you replaced the complete original toyota head unit ,with a modern radio/cd player ?

Did you use the cable adaptors on the new player as you have to interface between Totoyotas own wiring and the modern wiring of current stero/cd players ?

What is the make /model of the new unit ?

Hi,

Sorry, mis-read your question .

Not had much trouble navigating the site, what browser are you using / have you got any add ons that may be affecting things ?

Not quiet sure what you mean by "the problem of fixing it looks quite horrendous." can you give some examples / links / - always take online content with a pinch of salt until you prove otherwise !

As for your CD problem, which is not one I have had -

1. search the forum with " repair cd player" to bring up similar posts and see what others have done.

2. Also look down in the Audio forum to see if anyone has mentioned the problem / repair ( easily misssed section)

3. My own thoughts, you may be able to fix it by using a head / lens cleaner; given you can play the cd discs ok in another hifi unit.

( you could pop in to Halfords and try your CDs on their demo players, just say you want to hear a sound you know )

Repairing your unit, probably very difficult or expensive, because its such old unit and finding someone who knows the units and can get the parts, if still around ..?

Because the original unit has no modern interfaces, that most folk want these days to play from the moby etc, its probably cheaper just to fit a new radio/cd unit, plenty from Halfords or online from as little as £40 plus about £20 for the cable and surround adaptors.

Some really nice, very well speced ones in the £60 - £80 bracket.

Thank you for your suggestions. As it is the original unit, yes you are right, not up to date with all the latest gizmos. If the CD cleaning kit does not work I will consider a new unit.

Would that fit into the original space though? Of course I would use the so called computer thing with fuel recordings but I guess not the end of the world

Nearly all after market radios are built to the Single Din or Double Din sizes.

They will fit within your existing space but need a "surround" to give a reasonable finished look.

You may have to shop around to find a good looking one.

If you search the forums you will find various pitures of such upgrades, also you can visit local shops to see such aftermaket parts as well as the online places.
