Hi, I have a low millage 2007 corolla 1.6 sr (39,000 miles) and the clutch is starting to judder in 1st gear only! When i release the clutch at 1000rpm to 1800rpm gently it judders slightly and it is slowly getting worse! This has only been used for town driving, so its does alot of gear changes. Is it time for a new clutch? The clutch position is fairly high but not slipping and the peddle feel is quite heavy,

Despite the low milles , it does sound like a failing clutch assembly, typically a £300+ job at local clutch repairers or a lot more at Mr T.

Having said that, it does sound quiet typical and can carry on like that for many more miles if you put up with it.

There is also a post in this forum that the aux belt damper bearing can wear to a large gap and also cause the judder effect.

Have you bled the clutch recently or (mor unlikely) checked the foot pedal pivots are not seizing / carefully oiled.

As for your braking problem in your other post, well never thought that of my 1.6.

Have you bled the brakes recently, checked the discs and pads etc etc ?

Applied the brakes harshly at low speed so the ABS activates ?

I think you right about the clutch in need of replacement, it happened on my previous 2001 corolla at 91,000miles. I have not done the clutch bleeding etc because i always take it to toyota for servicing and nothing was mentioned. Do you think toyota would be double the price of a local clutch specialist? I have a service plan, which would knock the price down on parts and labour.

As for the brakes, i had a brake fluid change in september (dealer) and this didnt change the feel of the brakes. Compared to my previous corolla these brakes just dont seem to be as good, just takes a little more pressure than i like. The big brake up grade is over the top but i just like the look!

Think you need to ask Mr,T for their clutch prices, they seem to have a couple of prices, standard or opti fit etc; then to factor in your service plan discont..?

As Cryker has said in the other post, it might just be down to the brake pad quality.

What pads do you have in now ? What pads did you have on your previous Corolla that you liked ?

Have used Ferodo pads without any problems, always feel fine to me, though everyones different.

If its Mr T who are doing the servicing, doubt they would look at fitting non standard brakes and wonder if they would want to service the car if you had them fitted elsewhere... ?
