Rough Idle And Misfire After Service

Hi All,

I recently bought a 2005 1.8vvti, with only partial service history and 113k miles . I decided to do the basics myself, oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs. Car now idles badly revving intermittently and misfires badly at 3000rpm. Battery was disconnected for 48 hrs while servicing. Have I created an ECU problem?

seperate question, is mileage data stored on the ecu and can it be accessed using the Torque app?

On the basis that the engine wasn't misfiring prior to the service the first thing to consider is to swap the plugs back to the old set.

Others :- Do the new plugs have the correct code? Gaps checked? I know they come preset these days but they could have been knocked when being installed. Did you disconnect or tamper the MAF during the service? Have you checked for any fault codes? These may have been on the vehicle when you bought it and still be on the memory which could be an indication of a possible historic fault.
